Hey guys so as the title says my marlin 795 shoots all over the place at 50 yards as in its all over the 12inch target paper (high, low, left, right) doesn't matter the ammo (CCI , WIN , REM , FED)
I know the factory sights are poor but I didn't think that bad. Has anyone had this problem? and if so what did you do? Yes I know I'm not the greatest shot but I can get a good group at a 100 yard with my sks
so I don't think its all me lol
Thanks

yup, I clean the barrel after each use and the spread is the whole 12 inch target paper like edge to edge almost

How many rounds do you fire between cleanings? Some older barrels, as well as heavily used barrels, can take quite a few rounds to settle down after a cleaning.

Hey,

I'm also not the greatest shot. If you're not shooting off a bench with some kind of supporting bag, give that a try. It eliminates a lot of the error and wobble a shooter adds with bad form.

And if there isn't something wrong with the rifle, using aperture sights or a scope will really improve your consistency and accuracy.

Cheers,
Neil

Check the muzzles crown with a "Q" tip.
Rotate the "Q" tip in the bore right were it is crowned.
If it snags and or leaves fibers behind, you may have found your problem.

Also does it have a swivel stud in the stock? I wonder if the bedding screw or the sling stud is too long and pushing on the barrel.

I know when I put a sling stud in my Marling 891T syn stock, I had to trim down the stud as it was too long.

No sling stud just a built-in hole in the stock

The grouping is off a bench and with different shooter also. I did want to get the Tech sights but good luck finding someone that sells them in Canada. I know I can get them from the states but I dont really want to spend half the cost of the rifle itself just to still have it shoot like its bent lol

Have you done any trigger work, like Arrowdodger mods ? I have a 2014 Mayfield Model-60 and the trigger was about 5-6 lbs. when I bought it last year (NIB-an unused closet queen). I did most of the Arrowdodger mods and got the trigger down to about 2-3#. I was just out y-day and shot 8 diff brands of SV & HV. The worst was about 3" (Herters bulk HV) and the best was under 1" for 5-shot groups (S&B SV). I only shot 15-30 of each brand so not really definitive, but a good idea of what it likes. And it was 1-2*C with a 5-10mph tail wind that prob pushed them around a bit. Also, as was said you should check the muzzle and maybe run a brush on a drill in the chamber a few seconds. Could be you have 'Carbon Ring' clogging the leade. If you know someone with a borescope you should look inside. Those are only about $70 on Amazon - Teslong 0.2" diameter - lets you know how well (or not) you're cleaning.
