My Marlin arrived today with a 4x bushnell scope-its not the prettiest 22,but if it shoots ''minute of grouse head''it should fit my needs as a pure utilitarian truck gun.Total cost was about $190,from SIR-ordered before Christmas.Anybody know what preference of 22 bullets these little semi automatics like best-and what sort of 50 yard groups is a reasonable expectation?

yeah, they were on sale for $129 before Christmas- I got this one for my boy.I started him out on a single shot Cooey, and he likes to tag along on hunting trips now, potting grouse.Next year we'll try for a deer.

My little Marlin likes Winchester Super X HP's. It works great and plenty accurate enough for gophers well past 50 yards. If it starts to jam up, it just needs a quick cleaning. Some bullets are quite dirty and make cleaning necessary about every 500 rounds.

I have mine 795 more then a year...
This is my favorite .22 semi-auto..
It's very easy to clean, just take it apart and spray with any "gun" cleaner like Outer Gun De greaser/cleaner and then just oiled slightly and good to go, like 15 min and it's done!
Mine not ammo finicky at all, it eats everything the only American Eagles sometime causing FTE malfunctions (it's rare).
The best ammo I consider for mine is Federal Bulk (Champions I believe) it's works prefect, accurate and gun remains clean after box of 525 rounds......

P.S. Subsonic will cycle perfectly fine in .22 semi-autos including 795

thanks-sometimes you wonder if the biggest thing against a rifle is its low cost....but I have a couple of ''cheap''remington 788's that proved to be outstanding rifles-yet at the time nobody looked at them.Now-having said that I like a high end piece of workmanship as much as anybody-but this was to be a ''truck gun''-I have no plans to trick it out and the price was right.

I've got a 7000 which is the 797 with a bull barrel, it's awesome. I've had no problems with any ammo except Winchester Xpress bulk packs. Cycles subs no problem. My ammo of choice is the federal bulk pack stuff from can tire. I've heard very good things about cci minimags in these guns, but I can't get them anywhere close to me.

You should have no problem with "'minute of grouse head" shooting.

I was too impatient for mail order. I bought my 795 from our local Wholesale Sports a couple of months ago ($149.99)and am well pleased with it, but got the Bushnell 4x32 rimfire scope ($42.99) only last weekend and found it had the tip-off rings removed and a pair of regular rings substituted in the box. The local store was as helpful as they should be today when they swapped the whole scope package for another one, but I tried to zero it this afternoon and it doesn't adjust. Back for another exchange tomorrow. :(
