I just got a Marlin 795, I'm having problem to get good grouping at 50 yards.
at 30 yards in 1" grouping is not a problem but at 50 yards, it's all over ....
I wonder it's because only 18" barrel or does it need to be worked in first..
or perhaps the ammo.
any suggestion .... welcome.

Thank you in advance.

More info please.
Are you using a scope, what ammunition, etc.

I used REX Red Dot Scope 1.25-4.5x26E.
Ammo : Lapua Standard Club and Eley Target.

10 yrd, 20 yrd, 30 yrd, all grouping at 1/2" - 1"

I will another test on wednesday at 50 yards before the competition.
Perhaps I should run a couple hundreds rounds first .....

OK now we're getting to it; the grouping you are achieving with the Red dot scope sounds normal.
While I am not familiar with your "Rex" red-dot scope, most of the red dot reticules are 4moa or would be roughly four inches in diameter at 100 yards, hence your grouping.
So its likely not your shooting/rifle/ammunition but the red-dot scope itself which is not meant for pinpoint accuracy.

That being said I use one on my Marlin 60 for fast target aquisition on late season running Jackrabbits.

Hope I've explained this to make some sense.

Hi 1shot, thanks for the reply.

Yes, it's true what you're saying with a red dot sight.

This red dot scope, the dot can be shut off and just left with cross hair and
black tiny dot, at 20 yards only cover 1/4".

I'll try re-set the red dot scope and see what happens, also I'll compare it
with my Marlin 981T bolt and has REX 3-9x40AO on it.

Here is the Rex red dot :

My guess is that its the rifle , and not aloth you can do to make it better except try many kinds of ammo . Try some win grey box 40 gr HP. :)

I'll try that too, I'll get some tomorrow.
THX.

Nice looking scope..

Sounds like you've got the right idea now, and BTW like Levi Garrett says in his above post- try different ammo! Not always is the expensive the most accurate.. Plain old American Eagle ammo from Canadian Tire, they seem to be the best in all of my Marlins followed by grey-box Winchester.

Enjoy!

Thanks.

A couple nights ago, I finally figured out the problem with the grouping ...
I need a better scope mount, as I was firing away the damn scope mount
(Fitco scope mount) was sliding backward, especially with any ammo over 1100fps.
Perhaps I should use the REX mount with locking set screw to the base.

Any suggestion ???

Does accuracy not come from a good crown? If you have a bad crown, you can shoot all the ammo you want and accuracy will not change. Check the crown and if its bad, take it to a smith or re-crown it if you know what your doing.

-Edit: You could pick up a one peice mount, that will solve the shifting problems.

The grouping is ok I guess at .5" - 1", I've done some crowning but this one
perhaps is not needed yet.

where can I get a one piece mount for 30mm scope???
Thx.

BKL mount #360 may be your best bet. I've heard from
others it clamps on very nicely onto the Marlin 795 and 7000's. Look here:

Ah yes, my favourite place to shop, my good old buddy John.

Yes, that was the first place I took a look at first the other day.

I found 30mm scope mount in my spare box, brand new with a locking
set screw on it, I will give that a try if it doesn't work I'll give D&L a buzz.

THX.
