I got a new Marlin 795 from Cabalas yesterday.
Read posts on other sites that you should break it down because it might be full of grease and machining chips. Well today I broke that little sucker down and there is not a drop of lube on anything in the firearm! There is a known problem with paint overspray on the inside of the recievers on these guns and there was not one drop of oil on the bolt.
My bolt had a small drop hitch on it that had already rinded off the paint on the bolt slide. I sanded that off with some 400 grit sandpaper and then lightly polished the bolt with the Dremel with Simonize car polishing compound. Small casting mark on the ramp and lightly sanded with 400 and polished.
***** This is the important tip. I read on the net about using Brillo Pads..SOS pad...600 grit sandpaper to remove the overspray on the inside of the reciever.....no..no..no.
***** All you need is some lacquer thinners that you can buy at Crappy Tire. Dip Q tips and scrub the paint off the whole area that the bolt slides on. It works like a charm and only takes an hour, I read many posts of FTF and FTE with the 795 and after they cleaned off the paint and polished the bolt it worked perfect.
If I would have shot 50-100 rounds though it to "break it in" it would have rinded out my nice new .22
