just received a couple new 25 rd mags for my 795 from hical, they are made by promag and i have read about them here before, just a personal hands on confirmation i have had them for about a month now and seriously have put them through their paces, they work beautifully, smooth running, last shot hold open works perfect, a little pricey to get them to my door at 36 bucks each plus tax and shipping but well worth it, finally a good reliable mag for the 795, excellent rifle it was, outstanding rifle it now is....

agreed. I grabbed a few when hical first got them in, and I was pleasantly surprised. 10 and 7 round mags just werent cutting it, and because of these stick mags, and the reliability of the 795, it is my favourite rifle.

Everyone I've met who has a 795 has nothing but good things to say about it. I think it's a pity that there isn't much aftermarket support for it. The 10-22 has become a bit over rated IMO, especially as an out of the box gun.

i agree on the 10-22 i like my marlin better, definately more accurate as well, i have shot 3 ruger 10-22's and was not entirely impressed and bought the marlin instead, had it for about 6 months now, its perfect, now with 25 rounders i love it even more, 25 yards after 50 rounds and your scopes dialed in you just make 1 larger hole

Just picked up a 795 for a winter project. Put on a Tasco 2.5-10 Target /varmint to see how it functions. After sighting in the scope the gun shoots very good. Trigger is crap but for my project it doesn't matter. Would highly recomend one for a knockabout gun.

Were the factory mags unreliable?

I am considering one of these rifles, but don't really care for the 25 rounders....

Factory mags work like a charm. They are also made of metal, not polymer (colour me "fudd"). If you did like 25 rd magazines, these are a fine choice! Seems much more robust than the hi-caps that were available back in the day from Marlin for the 70.

seems i searched and searched for more 10 rounders, always out of stock, but if ya got 6 of those....perfect!!!! i would have been happy with a couple more, just couldnt find stock, great gun if there is a drawback like someone mentioned the stock trigger is not very good

^Agreed. I think they're the best value out there quite frankly. I had the trigger re-worked on mine and it's made a good gun great. I'm actually considering getting a second one just because, but my kids go through too much ammo with the bolt guns as is! I've been eyeballing those 30 round drums from HiCal as a nice compliment to this rifle, and might get one if I ever see one available. Not committed enough to the idea to pre-order. The 10rd. factory mags are the most compact, efficient, affordable factory rimfire mags I've ever used, and I think I'm up to 5 of them. I grab one every time I see them for sale, which is rare. They also fit my Marlin 917 M2 so an easy argument to stock-up.

That rifle came with a black, 7 round mag and I'd love to get my hands on a few more of those. I've never seen them for sale, and have grown tired of looking. Don't think I've seen any black 10-rounders for sale.

cabelas dot ca seems to have the 10 round nickel mags in stock as of today (oct 22 2013)

The factory mag is about the only thing I don't like on the 795. It works just fine but the spring is stiff and the mag lips are sharp. Usually by the time I leave the range, my finger is split open from loading the mag a bunch of times.
