Hi, new here, just wondering if anybody knows about aftermarket stuff for this gun, mine shoots great but I'd like to have some more accuracy. Any trigger mods or barrels available to help my 2" group @100yds shrink to maybe 1" ??

I shoot mostly from a MTM Predator bench, using Hornady 17g v-max, I don't know if there is better ammo. I found that Federal and CCI give me "looser" groups than Hornady. Is there a subsonic load in .17HMR??? I know it is intended to explode on impact due to the high velocity but maybe a slower bullet would equal to a smaller grouping? I use CCI subsonic in my 10/22 and can hit loonies @ 100yds, but with any other type of .22lr bullet it becomes a really hard shot...
Thanks.

Sorry, you'll never see a subsonic .17 HMR. Subsonic works for .22 LR since the standard velocity is close to the sound barrier, so they can go from 1200 fps to about 950 fps without a problem. Since these never have to break the sound barrier and go thru a transition, they tend to be more accurate at long range than HV rounds. That's why you can hit the loonie with the subsonics. However, if you tried to slow that 2500 fps .17 HMR bullet to 950 fps, it would not stabilize (i.e. not spin fast enough) meaning it would be inaccurate.
Besides, almost no one would buy it, since the 17HMR is a varmint cartridge.

I don't have a 917v, but it sounds like your problem is:
1. bedding issues between the barrel stock,
2. damage to the rifling at the tip of the barrel (crown).
Unless it has a really crappy trigger, I would bet you will find bedding to be the issue.
Take your gun to an experienced shooter, preferably a target shooter or a gunsmith, and I'm sure they'll find/fix your problem.
It probably isn't an ammo issue, since these guns are known to shoot 1" groups or less at 100 yds.
Cheers

It does sound like ammo to me, or the shooter. I get significantly smaller groups than 2" with nothing fancy done to my rifle(I did float the barrel). I had to try a lot of ammo to get there though. There are some brands out there that give me 2" groups, but only a few.
I am no bench shooter, and I have no intention of having a $250 rifle worked over. Yesterday at the range I was shooting empty .22 casings off the 100 yard berm.
Try more ammo, clean good between changing them.
Understanding of course that most .17 ammo is made by CCI, there is a difference.

thanks for the lesson on the subsonic rounds, i will also look into the bedding issue, no visible damage to the crown so that may help. thanks again
