So, I got a Marlin 925. Interesting little rifle as the safety mechanism is perplexing me. My question for those who have owned this .22 for a while is: How do you store this rifle? I'm asking this because I find it hard to put a loop lock on it but can't as turning the bolt up cocks the rifle and I'm not very adamant about keeping a cocked rifle for storage per gun laws and the rifles own well being. Also, the safety is only allowed to engage during the cocked process (is this normal?) So right now, I have a trigger lock on it but the bolt closed and decocked but I can't put on safety because it won't allow me. I know some won't fret but storing it either way looks bad.

I don't trigger lock my 925M. I simply keep it unloaded, bolt closed and de-cocked in my gun safe. It's perfectly legal and perfectly safe. You only need the trigger lock if you're not storing it in a gun safe and there is no requirement as far as cocked or decocked or use of the safety. Many firearms will not allow you to engage the safety unless they are cocked. fortunately, there is no legal requirement that you engage the safety when storing a firearm.

De-#### the bolt.

No need to engage the safety.

Install a trigger lock.

Or #### the bolt, engage safety, install trigger lock. Leaving the bolt cocked should not harm a hammer or striker spring, if that is your concern.

But I have not heard of a requirement to engage the safety when storing firearms.
