Hi Guys,

Marlin is making a nice looking bolt action 17rd tubefeed called the 981t, they go for $199. Any idea how long this rifle has been around?
They look similar to the 925 but for the tube- does anyone here have one or an opinion? I'm getting ready for a new bushytail tool, divided between the 981t or perhaps Savage Mk2.

I've had my 981T for a couple of months now and find it to be a whole lot of fun. It is set up to take scope rings out of the box; I put a Bushnell 3-9 x 40 .22 scope on it and am getting 2 inch groupings at 25 metres:sniper:. If you don't want a scope it comes with notched (ramp) sights. I used it without a scope the first few times out. It feeds well and is easy to maintain. It is well worth the $199.
 
I bought a 981T earlier this year, and I've been very impressed with it. I got the tubular feed because I wanted to be able to bench rest it without the annoying clip hanging out the bottom.

I also have a Bushnell 3-9 on it, and it consistently groups 1-2" at well over 25 yards. It was sighted when I bought it, and to this day it's a tack driver with any ammo I feed it.

For $300 with a decent rimfire scope - you can't go wrong. I've fired approx. 2,500 rounds without a hitch.

I intended to abuse it, and that's exactly what I've done. Despite rough usage and a ton of rain, it shows no wear whatsoever.
 
Marlin 81T

I have the older Marlin 81T, the predecessor to the 981T with the T-900 fire control system. I really like the tube fed rifles which holds 17 22 LR's, 19 long, and 25 shorts. It is well balanced and has a nice thick barrel, sort of like a semi-bull barrel. Accuracy with a 4X fixed Tasco scope is great, with the long rifle cartriges shooting at under 1 1/2" at 23 yards from a rest and the shorts opening up a bit, but still under 2". Definitely a keeper and well worth the $199 price.

i have a 981T. its a good shooter and having a tube mag is really good stuff fast reloads that are easy on the fingers/thumb. it honestly shoots under an inch every single time at 25m with a 3x-9x32AO bushnell scope using a brick of ammo as a front rest and using federal510(cheap stuff, 1.79 a box). i did have a slight problem with it though. when i put on the bushnell sportsman 3x-9x 30AO, i had serious clearance issues with the bolt while using the rings the sportsman came with. ended up getting some b-square medium height rings and it totally fixed the problem. so if you get a scope with rings, make sure you can work the bolt properly.
