Marlin 983 .22 magnums

Hello all. Am looking at getting a Marlin 983 .22 magnum. Am wondering if anyone out there has one or knows someone who has one. I am looking for any feedback on them. I have a Winchester .22 with a tube magazine, and like the feature. The tube also enables me to carry 12 rounds at one time on the 983. Any and all feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shawn
 
I've been really considering grabbing a 983S, just looks so nice in the laminated stock and the stainless finish. I've researched a bit about these on the net and it seems people have had the odd problem buying them new (parts missing, stripped screws) but I'd take these as rare occurrences as the bulk of people seem happy.

I'd like to hear some other opinions though too on both the 983 and the 983S.
 
I just went and bought one (983S) ! It's a real beauty. :) Can't wait to try it out this Thursday when I'm afield for whitetails and chickens.
 
I've decided that I need a nice little .22 WMR for plinking and small game. And I came across the Marlin 983S at Wholesale Sports. It seems to be everything I'm looking for (low maintenance stainless, decent iron sights), and I'm warming up to the idea of a tube magazine; easy enough to load up and no mag to forget at home or lose in the bush. And best of all, it seems to be a lot of gun for the money. Wholesale has it listed at $319.

So I'd be very interested to hear any firsthand opinions about it!

Jeff/1911: Did you get a chance to put any rounds through yours yet?

Yes, I was out shooting it over the weekend. It works beautifully...I haven't had a chance to do any serious range testing with it yet, but I hope to do so soon.
