Gentlemen: my brother just purchased a Marlin carbine from an old family friend. It is a marlin Model 1894 carbine in .44 WCF. It features a carbine butt plate, case hardened lever and frame, saddle ring and a 15" factory barrel. The little gun is in excellent condition with no wood issues and only minor wear on the case colours. The bore is very good with no pits. I have checked several US web sites that have quoted some large amounts as to it's value. I would like to know it's approximate value here in Canada. Any ideas?

No idea on the value (it's gonna be up there though) but the first thing I'd do is confirm with the factory records that it is in fact a factory 15" barrel.

Oh yeah, and get some pictures of it and post them - I want to see that little sweetie :D
 
Love to see some pics. Don't seem trappers everyday. As for value, I'm not certain. I've only ever bought 1 Marlin, though that seems to be changing. Yup, check out what you can find out at the BBHC, but as I've recently found out, the Marlin records can be sparse in what was recorded.

Value in the US for guns with under 16" barrels is based on factory shipping info. Prices listed in the US are based on certain restrictions:

The BATFE will only deprohibit guns which can be proven via factory shipping records as factory original pre 1935 guns.

IIRC Marlin factory info is unavailable past @1903, which sort of restricts their value in the US (and hence also) desirability in Canada.

Pre- 1898 manufactured guns may be classified as antiques (but only in the US) and therefore removed from the c.1935 laws.

I believe that the Marlin records are held by the Cody Museum along with the Winchester records.
