Just recently read you're study on the big bores.
It's what I was always curious about and too bad I couldnt read it before I became a member, when deciding which cal I should buy.
I decided on the 45-70 in Marlin XLR, this last spring.
Factory loading's send'em out the tube perdy slow, cause of all them old 45's out there.
Reloading at max allowed velocities for the old 45-70 for a new XLR brings it up to, and maybe beyond 444 or 450 Marlin factory load specs.
The recoil will tell you that, immediately when you pull the trigger, man, what a difference in reloads.
For those who don't like reloading and want to shoot factories only, the 444, or 450 is the better choice. no reloading necessary because they are max velocity loadings
