Hey guys~question for you. Just found some 17M2 ammo so my favorite rimfire rifle is back in service~my pre-2008 917M2. :)

The Rifle Basix trigger really makes this rifle a pleasure to shoot...but I was looking at it in the safe yesterday and realized how "full sized" a rifle it really is compared to most of my other rimfires. Got me wondering what heavy barrel Marlin .22s were out there of the same vintage, the model designation, how they shoot, etc. etc. 2014 will likely see a .22lr bolt action added to the collection...need a back-up to my CZ plan in case this fall's .204 Ruger eats most of my gun budget. :)

Sweet!

You know, I cannot recall the last time I saw .17M2 ammo on my local dealers shelves. What does your rifle prefer?

Good question! lol I'll I've fed it is Hornady, as that's all I've found until recently. I have some Remington Accu-tips lined-up and will be able to try them in the coming weeks. With the Hornady, @ 50 yards and an iffy rest...this is what it's capable of in my hands. (before the Rifle Basix trigger) Only time I've had it on the range @ 105 yards, it was shooting more like 1-1.25"...but it was about -15C and windy.

D@mn! Nice shootin'!

I sure wish it the .17M2 had caught on more.

Ammo and rifles are still being made, but both in dwindling numbers I think. I've spoken with Hornady about their supply, and they told me they don't load any rimfire ammo in their facilities. I take that to mean they're waiting on CCI. Anyhow, nothing rattles my affection for .22lr like a day of shooting this 17M2. If I knew I could buy ammo on the shelf every time I walked into my local shop, I'd have a couple of .22s for sale.

Thanks Aaron! :) I think I'm on a personal mission to drive-up it's popularity in S. Ontario. If you ask most shops here if they have 17M2 ammo, they'll say; "17M-what?" :)

I tell people how good it is here too. A few shops in the area have stock on ammo still and one still orders the Savage rifles in too. Performance of that round is great and quite efficient without the noise and price of the hmr. I was still thinking about the rifle basix trigger you put in for an upgrade. I wish I could find a CZ style or ruger 77 stainless in that caliber, I would definitely buy it.

I think there is still a CZ452 in 17M2 in the EE. Tempted myself, probably a shooter....but not unless/until the ammo situation improves a little around here. Until then, Marlin it is! :) The Rifle Basix trigger really is excellent. Might be the nicest trigger in the house. Then again, my .204 Ruger isn't here yet. :)

I pondered that one pretty hard too. It would be lighter then my bull barreled laminate marlin but I do most of my rabbit hunting in the winter with a snowmobile. Also the tight bush puts a lot of snow on me when I'm stalking through it. Even with that I still want that CZ!
