Just finished reading an article in a gun rag about a new Marlin bolt action rifle. Looks interesting and it is supposed to be priced right around the Stevens line. Right now it only comes in long action with a few standard cartridges available but if it goes over well there are plans for more calibers and a short action as well.

Your thoughts? Yea? Ney?

it seems to me like a Savage wannabe.... thing is, it brings nothing new to the table and with a Savage you already know exactly what you are going to get in terms of function, accuracy and design - and there are tonnes of aftermarket accessories already available for them.

maybe in a few years id consider one, but right now? whats the point?

If it is priced like a Stevens 200,that's pretty cool because it seems to have a version of the Accutrigger style trigger.

I've been thinking of getting one of the Stevens rifles for a loaner/beater/canoe paddle/back up gun. I might just hold off and wait until I see and fondle one of these Marlins. The stock looks like a much better version than the Stevens - I was really put off by it. I know I shouldn't expect much at that price point but Savage/Stevens could have done a better job for just a few dollars more.

Mostly a Savage knock off. The bolt being brazed on didn't crank me up.
Neither did the blind magazine.
I'd still like to check one out though.
