Marlin Carbine Info?

I recently traded for a Marlin 336 with a straight stock it appears to be unfired. I thought the Marlin 336's had pistol grips? This one has a straight walnut stock with a squared off guard. Did the straight stock only came on the Cowboy action guns? Is there a Marlin sight to find out info on when it was manufactured, and different variations?
