I did a search and never found any previous posts on this particular firearm, so please forgive me if I actually missed it and it has been questioned before.

Pretty simple though, does anyone here have any input on the Marlin Model Golden 39A? More specifically in a .22 LR.

My experience with Marlin rifles is good so far, but I have only ever owned 1 and of a much larger calibre. But I'm sort of looking for a nice, plain jane lever action 22. I love the look and feel of my other Marlin rifle, and the action is quite smooth, so I was hoping their quality is quite consistent among all their rifles.

I know the only true way to get a good feel for it is to actually handle it and use it myself, so I am going to check around to see if any stores have one I could handle. Of course actual use would mean that I already took the plunge and own it....

So I'd like to hear from any other forum members who may have had experience with this particular firearm. Also keep in mind I wouldn't be putting a scope on it, basically just leave it as it comes out of the box for shooting the odd gopher and mostly targets.

The site with the most information is Rimfire Central.
Specific locations within dedicated to various makes.
Lots of pictures posted and lots of subscribers with more knowledge that I.
My first 39 was in 1958, plus a couple of 39M's.

The search function needs to be tweaked a bit by you before it will work well.
You need to set the parameters of the search so that it goes back years if you want to really dig,

That said they are great guns.
Most people prefer the older ones with the non rebounding hammer and there has been some talk online of quality control issues with recent production.
I have one that has been cut down to 18.5 inches and I prefer it to the full length barrel. It feels like a trapper and has the same overall length due to the smaller receiver.

I bought mine new about 4 years ago and it was a bit of a nightmare at first as it would not eject the spent round. The shell would extract but instead of ejecting it would fall down into the receiver, what a pain in the a@@ turning it over trying to shake out the shell. It turns out that the issue was the stop that pushes the shell off of the extractor. There was a small hump in the plate just a bit forward of the stop (not sure of the right terminology) that would just ease the shell off the extractor instead of flinging it off. Through trial and error I damaged the extractor and needed a new one which i ordered through Gravel, the marlin parts supply co.
Long story short if you are going to buy a new one do so at a store where you can go over it closely as some have had an issue with the two parts meshing correctly. I would probably recommend though that you buy an older one unless Marlin has worked out some of these kinks.
Now that mine shoots the way it should have I do enjoy this gun, very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry for repeating a topic that has been brought up before......seems I need a bit more practice with the search function!

And on that note, I might just have to start looking for one of these rifles now.
