Marlin Guide gun in .45-70...your experience?

Thanks CC,

I figured brass availability would end up being a biggie...I'll probably end up with the same rifle you've got! :)

Cheers, Jeff.

blued or stainless?

Now I'm trying to decide between s/s and blue...my plan was to buy a blued one, but it seems like only the s/s version are in stock around these parts. It's partially the added cost of the s/s vesion, but also the fact that I have NEVER had rust occur on any firearm I've owned - so I see little need for the s/s finish.

I agree they look nice, but to me so do the blued ones - maybe nicer! ;)

I guess I'm just rambling at this point; but does anyone here have a suggestion about the way to decide?

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

As I stated earlier I have the s/s 1895GS and would totally consider the new LXR model as well if I had the money to spend.

I think that the s/s laminate stocked firearms are awesome looking.

Hi CC,

I think the XLR's look nice too, but I am set on getting one with a short barrel...the 18 1/2" length of those on the Guide Rifle's seems perfect to me. I had forgotten that you said yours was stainless...

In any case, knowing me and my tendency to buy and sell guns I think I'd better go with a stainless one for it's higher potential "resale" value!

Jeff.

Hi Jeff,
Just joined the site and found your question; I have the ported marlin in 444 and my father-in-law has 2 ported s/s 45-70 marlins. After shoting both one after another, I would go with the 45-70 with ghost rings. The 45-70 almost seems quiter and more "push" then punch (like the 444).
Also, check out the shooting edge for the ghost rings;thats were i got mine, good luck!
