Marlin guide gun, slight conversion

Hi all, this talk of large calibers in the King of .375's thread made me want to share my Marlin 45/70 story.

I have this really nice stainless Guide Gun but I just can't stand the straight stock. It feels weird in my hands and even makes me have poor shooting form!

So I will be swapping the stock with a pistol grip one, as well as install a curved lever and I guess I also need to find me a new trigger plate to make this possible.

I'll post some before and after pictures. I love that caliber, a really big boom and lot's of oomph, at both ends.

I did the same conversion on a GG back in 2007. It was worth the swap for sure. Gave the rifle to my father for fathers day not long after doing the swap and he loves how it handles and will be keeping it for some time to come I think.

customizing the marlin 1895 gg

Where did you get the parts to swap out? I would love to change the stock and lever on my guide gun as well. I love the gun but the straight grip doesn't really fit and the lever is way too small for my hands. I'm planning on getting one of the new GBL guide guns as soon as they are available.
 
Wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to just buy a regular 1895SS or whatever, and chop the barrel?

That being said, I don't think they make a regular 'full size' one in stainless do they. :)
 
Never did like the straight grip
Have had two Marlins in the pistol grip, blued with wood.
Hauled the around the mountains in a scabbard for 10 wks they have served me fine over 11 years.
SS is over rated, plus I hate the glare and would have to get it coated.

Felt recoil with the straight grip is much harsher, however, that could be fully tamed with a Limbsaver pad - at least there won't be any pain factor even after using a couple boxes (factory loads) at a single session. However, I've noted that the PG offer superior ergonomics.
