Marlin Guide Gun

"I have a rifle that has express sights, the bead and V, and it is useless beyond 25 yards to aim for anything, maybe 50, for me that is."

That puts you one up on me, I'm just noodling over the concept. On the other hand a bead and a V do not make express sites, they have to be the right ones. I have spent 35 years sneering at bead sights, but I am now rethinking my position. Of course for 35 years I was concerned with accuracy pretty much exclusively.

"While the express sights may have had their day and their acclaimed supporters, I honestly believe that the ghost ring is far more relied upon today than express sights."

I don't agree about the had their day stuff, these new models are just coming on the market, with all the usual hoopla. As a result, I would agree with you on the ghost ring, that has been the cool set-up for a while now. I think it will continue to be the cool deal because the vast majority of people putting these guns together are not seriously expecting to shoot any bears, on the charge, at 20 yards (I'm not either though if anyone knows an opening...). There are techniques for shooting these things at short and long range. The GR is a little more picky at short range under pressure, and the express sight is the reverse. I think if one wants to use the express sighted gun at longer ranges, then the tool for that is a scope or a flip up aperture.

For the really long stuff pack a laser range finder. Improved both my golf and archery to no end.

Well.

I think that express sights with a flip up aperature, or maybe the quick release scope would be great.

it certainly would give you the protection and the shot.

I saw a Marlin with a setup similar to this, but not quite.

At what velocity exactly does this happen?

I tested hondady 350g at different velocitys into wet clay, they didn't expand much below about 1100fps. Any more retarded comments from the experts that haven't tested any thing exept thier mouth?

Well....With the hornady 350gr FP's I tested, about 400 to 500fps.

But I'll take extra butter and no salt, nonetheless.....

I wont bother trying to explain why I asked that question, our local bullet testing expert answered that question all ready. Shooting wet clay might be fun and give a small idea of what a bullet might do (hitting an animal that is all mass and has no bones), but in the real world when shooting animals it means SFA.

I was more interested in how ROA conducted his test. But I guess it was so extensive, he doesn't want to tell details.

I really do like hearing and reading about people testing bullets in all different ways, including shooting clay etc.. But when they give sh!t responses like this:
Any more retarded comments from the experts that haven't tested any thing exept thier mouth?

It goes to show that they are the experts and the rest of the world is just a bunch of idiots  .

Anytime you are down this way ROA, feel free to hook up with us and teach us lesser life forms how to shoot and do bullet tests

Hey, I know it's not even close to a good bullet test but I needed a quick and dirty sample. I have also shot dry newspaper at 1800fps as well as a moose head at 2100fps and trees at all kinds of crazy ranges.

In this thread I have

#1 Stated the flaws of this rifle
#2 Porovided proof I actualy use mine
#3 Given an opinion of what the maximum range limitation is based on actual experience.

When you start posting pics of all the animals you shot with your guide gun you can have some credibility.

Untill then we have a city guy from Calgary that has probably not shot a moose with a 45-70 telling a bush guy who has shot moose, bears, trees, rocks ect at all kinds of ranges what the limits are for the guide gun. I can't respect that.
