A buddy tried his hand without asking advice on reloading for his 45-70 Marlin guide gun.The shells were not sized properly and he of course forced them into the chamber. In the process I think he may have sprung the action. Not sure what else he may have damaged.Marlin hasn't been too great with customer service these days. What to do.It feeds factory most of the time but has chambering issues...............Harold

Don't bother sending it back to Remington. I sent my NEF back for barrel work. It took 4 months and poor work done. And then it was damaged by UPS now Im fighting for replacement. Fix it local

When you say he sprung the action, what exactly happens when the action is cycled? The Marlin is pretty resilient to abuse, do you think the lever bent? It might be a good opportunity to order a lever with an over sized loop, or do you think it is worse than that?

It sometimes balks 3/4 of the way through chambering a rnd[even factory] like the linkage stops moving.I think the extactor was broken and replaced at one point.Harold

Here's a few things that come to mind. Check to see if there is unusual wear or burrs to the tip of the lever where it engages the bolt. Check that the elevator/carrier is not bent. Check to make sure the tang screw, trigger guard plate screws are tight. Check to see that the screw hole in the trigger guard plate where the lever pivots is not slopped out and that the lever screw is the correct size. If the extractor was improperly installed, perhaps it was bent and is pushing the cartridge cockeyed as it is being chambered.
