i have this lil rifle that was my gramps/dads/mine. allways assumed it was a mountie, but it is not marked as such. just marked model 39-A i know its never been messed with, parts swapped. it is a 5 digit serial number L 3219
reciever is not drilled for a scope mount. im gona guess it was made early 50s?

round lever only mounties had those i thought? just kinda curious about it now.

edit added some pics and bbl measurement is 20"

Would be nice to see a picture of the whole rifle. I follow the Marlin collectors forum and there are several instances that not all Mounties had conventional markings. Thanks for posting. I have a golden 39m and it is staying in the family.

ill post up some pics tomorow. send me a link maybe to that forum?

Straight lever not curved. Looks like a mountie.

24" is two ruler lengths
20" is on ruler and 2/3

If you don't have a ruler get one

People should also measure and get to know parts of their body.... I'm a carpenter and when I spread the fingers of my hand out the distance from the end of my pinky to my thumb is about 8 inches, I can walk my hand on a wall twice and measure out 16"'s which is the typical measurement between studs in a wall, my feet with shoes on are 12" what do you know.... basically "a foot" My thumbs are an inch across and my fingers 3/4". The french world for inch is the same as the word for thumb..... "pouce"

well i learned a bit over on the marlin forum, for those who are interested. K in the serial number is 1954. it is considered a mountie, but werrent marked that way the first few years is what im told. 20" bbl .1953 mountie model came with a 24" bbl and is highly sought after in the usa
