Marlin Model 60 jams

Guys,

I bought an old Marlin Model 60 that works great with Federal Game Shok ammo, but everything else I have tried jams at least once in ten shots.

There are two main problems:

1). Failure to eject - the bolt doesn't recoil all the way back and the spent shell remains in the action. This isn't difficult to clear, just work the action, but it's annoying.

2). Failure to feed - the shell jams halfway up when it's being brought up from the tube mag. It ends stuck rear end up into the action. There are two ways to fix it. I can either push the shell back into the tube and re-chamber it manually, OR I can try to work the shell out of the action. This often leaves the bolt jammed backwards, for unknown reasons. That means I have to tear the gun down, free the bolt from its mysterious jam, and then re-assemble.

I'm guessing Problem 2 could be caused by a weak "lifter spring," and that the recoil spring behind the bolt could somehow be getting jammed and keeping the bolt held back sometimes (this is NOT a last-shot-hold-open gun AFAIK).

BUT

I have no idea as to the cause of Problem 1.

I carefully cleaned the gun before testing it. I didn't put much lube on it, as I didn't want to get it too dirty inside.

There's been millions of these guns sold. Someone else must have experienced similar problems and fixed them?

Just guessing, but I would suggest a complete strip down, scrub and clean. I used to have a Model 60, wish I'd never sold it.

X2 - Its just needs some TLC. I clean mine each time I use it and once a year strip it.

try some different ammo. The guns do seem to like one manufacture over another. Many do not like the hollow points. But when they started to copper coat the lead, it sure turned things around. All my .22s like Winchester 333s...both semi and bolt.

I've run 6 or 7 brands (one of everything they had at C-Tire) and they only worked with the Game Shok stuff.

I had high hopes for Blazer ammo, but it was a no-go. I never tried anything else from CCI, but anything else from Winchester and Federal was no good.
