I purchased a used Marlin MXLR 308 rifle a few weeks ago. I posted on CGN asking about ammo availability and am thankful for all the helpful info I got and I have found a supply of ammo. The next thing I am wondering about is that a lot of people seem against Remmington/Marlin rifles saying that the quality of the lever action is not as good. I am trying to determine which era my rifle is from. I have heard that the first two digits in the serial number is the year the gun was manufactured. Mine starts with 93. I would like to know if this a 1993 built rifle an if so is that before the Rem. takeover?

I just did a little research on the Rem. Buyout of Marlin and found that it was effective in Jan. 2008. So my 2007 rifle is a true Marlin. Is there merit to the coments about the post takeover rifles being of inferior quality?

Some were junk. Some are still as good as any Pre-Rem. It really was hit or miss, with enough misses to ruin the Marlin reputation unfortunately.

Remington ,I hope we all hope will turn the corner and get things in order .Unfortunately they have much more to do ,I did handle some newer guns and fired some and they certainly will shoot with the JM rifles fit and finish is getting much better .Marlin is a good gun and prices will increase ,and for some of us we are willing to pay the little more .We just want it to shoot and look ,feel good now ,no more resending for warranty
