Hi.

I am considering what scope to put on my 1865 SBL

First thought was a silver leupold scout scope. But if I'm going to be forced to look through a scope I'd prefer it to be more variable than set magnification. Also would need a good BDC you'd think.

Second thought was a reflex red dot but don't want some huge 3-5 moa dot to look at, the 1-2 moa's require a small loan LOL.

Don't really want a black scope on a silver and grey gun. Think that just looks plain goofy.

Not do I want a tube style red dot cause they look too modern.

Hate having old eyes :(

Any thoughts or strokes of genius would be appreciated.

Would like to be under $700.

Jeff

If you have to scope it, then Leupold VX-3 1.5-5. The matte black doesn't look goofy when it's mounted to a black rail. IMO silver scopes are way to "flashy" on a hunting rifle.

As far as a BDC reticle. The "Hogplex" reticle from Leupold is an interesting one.

I have both an xlr and an sbl in 45/70. The xlr is set up with a 4-12 vortex and the sbl has the leupold scout scope. I much prefer the scout set up. Shoots under 1 moa with it and the only time you really "need" more magnification is when you are shooting at paper on the range........deer and elk dont have little 1 inch squares you get mad at when you miss by an inch
