marlin or rem made?

I'm looking at a marlin lever gun and it has JM stamped on the barrel, but by the serial number it was made in the same year remmington took over..

How can I be sure its a marlin and not a rem?

That's because they used up all the jm barrels when they first took over Marlin. A lot of people are under the impression Marlin QC took a crap when the company was sold. Quality was in decline for 6-7 years prior.

First numbers are 93... am I right in understanding it was made in the same year that remmington took over?

100-93=2007

Remington bought North Haven Marlin in 2008. They closed it down on March 31st, 2011. All of North Haven Marlin was moved into 3 Different Remington Plants. Lever Action went to Ilion,NY. Your barrel should be stamped with "THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN,CT" and should be pure JM and prior to Remington.
