Just purchased this from a estate and would like to know what model it is.

.22 cal 24" round barrel, tang sight
all that is written on it is;
Marlin fire-arms Co. New Haven CT USA
Pat'd Nov19 1878 April 2 1889 Aug 12 1890 March 1 1892

on the top of the receiver it says

Marlin Safety

Looks like a Marlin model 1892 rifle to me. Nice gun. Patent dates for older lever designs were included on a lot of older rifles.
All of the old Marlin levers had Marlin Safety stamped on top of the action except maybe the model 1881.

Thanks, any idea what its worth, Took it out this morning shoot fine never skipped a beat. It's missing the rear sight so I had to use the peep

Tang markings may be absent but it's still a 92, I think. Not a real Marlin guy but should be worth a decent price, not a lot of them seen in decent shape. Someone will be along tonight with a better idea price wise.

I think one of the major differences between the late model 1891 and early model 1892 is the trigger safety mechanism, that gets depressed by the lever when the action's closed. Looks like this has one, so I'm guessing it is an early model 1892. What range is the serial number in?
FYI - don't shoot high velocity ammo through these. The bolt is known to crack. Stick to the softest shooting 22 you can find if you want to keep it safe.

Neither of them are what you would call common. I'm guessing 1892-94 production based on that serial number. Beautiful old gun - I haven't seen enough of them to be comfortable in giving you an estimate though. Nice find.

The serial number does indicate that it is a model 1891 and I would need to see the side plate removed so we can see if it has the one piece trigger or 2 piece trigger. The view of the left side of the frame would be nice also. if you publish the full serial number it can be lettered which will give you more information as to it's configuration when it left the factory. I am sure though that it is 1891 second model. First models were side loaders.

Hi rthook, your gun is definitely a model 1891 and the photos confirm it. The marked 1891's are later, around late 1894, early 1895

Records for your 1891 show.
Serial number 75203 is as follows:

Model 1891
.22 caliber
24 inch round barrel
Shipped: 9-9-1892

There is no mention of the tang sight which is not unusual with the Marlin records. It could have been added after. These are great little guns and in the early variation very collectable. As stated in an early post do not shoot HV ammo out of it. To value it I suggest that you check Gunbroker.com or Gunsinternation.com to view what some of these guns are going for, I'm sure you will be pleased.
