Marlin/ Rem is quality any better ??(bolt action )

I am thinking of getting a .243 Marlin XL7 for yote,has the quality issues been resolved with the new marlin/rems ?? I have an earlier one in 30-06 and its a great shooter, but I know QC went down the tubes when Rem took over, and since I been out of the firearm loop for a while I was wondering if these issuses are fixed.

I've been on a huge Lever gun hunt for the past several months and have seen many copies, the newer Marlins have fit and finish that reminds me of the pre Remington days, the differences are not subtle either, the early Remington guns were tragic...just checked out a newer one today and it was a nice gun.
 
I haven't heard of any quality issues with any of the Marlin rifles other than lever actions. I was thinking of buying an XL7 a while ago , and all the reviews I saw were that they are decent rifles. Even though I don't own one , it would be my choice in that price range over the Axis,770 and American for sure.
 
Do a search for my experience with Marlington levers!... I wouldn't buy one unless I thoroughly handled it, and cycled some snap caps through it... in fact, I would do that for ANY modern firearm these days. Good luck.
 
I have 3 Marlin XS7 and they all shoot great with no issue. They are nice rifle for the price with a better trigger and shoulder pad than the Axis.

I was in my local gun store yesterday and was told by one of the clerks that the price of the Marlins is due to shoot up (sorry I couldn't resist) now that they have gotten past their issues.
How true it is, I couldn't tell you, but if it is, grab one now. Just hope that if you are ordering online that you dont end up with someone's old stock dating back to the time when they were having issues.
Does your Sail store not have them?
 
I've had two Marlin XS7 rifles in 7-08. The first was produced by Mariln (JM stamped) while the second was produced by Remington (REP stamped). I noticed no difference in quality between the two rifles --- both were nicely finished and built. I believe the issue with Remlins was predominantly in relation to the moving of lever action production from Marlin's Connecticut factory to Remington's Illion, NY factory. The REP XS7 that I had was built in Remington's Mayfield, Kentucky factory.

There's a lot more to building a lever action than an XS rifle, so I think it was this difference that accounted for the poor quality of Remlins. I wouldn't be nearly as concerned with the Marlin bolt guns.

I only checked the one closest to my work and they did not, i will call the other three this week.

I believe your correct on that, I been reading online as much as I could and that seems to be what many are saying.
