Marlin rifles still bad?

What is wrong with the twist rate in the 44 Mag? I am thinking also about a pistol caliber Marlin.

You're pretty limited to 240 grain projectiles. The slow twist makes it a gamble as to whether or not a bullet up to 300gr will even stabilize.

I bought an 1894 a couple years ago when wholesale sports close down . Clunky and you could not rapid fire it . I bought a 336y this year and it shoots and cycles fantastic .

Both Rem and Marlin are still a hit or a miss. I am not buying for myself any of those make du to QC.

The last 1894 cowboy I looked at ( earlier this year ) had really poorly fit wood. You could literally see daylight through the gap where the buttstock met the rear of the action.

Chris.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any gun shops nearby that actually stock pistol caliber Marlins. So the real only way for me to get one is to order one, which is a huge gamble. I guess I'll keep an eye out at some local gun shows, maybe I'll get lucky there.

While I would very much encourage you to buy from a LGS, SAIL in Burlington carries the 1894 in .44. May be worth checking it out, see what you think of the build quality.

i have a newer 336 and love the rifle. Put together well, sights are good and the action is surprisingly smooth.

That's interesting. SAIL in Etobicoke only stocks the 30-30 and told me they can't special order a pistol caliber. Wonder if the Burlington folks would order one in .357. Appreciate the heads-up.

Just bought one of the 1894 CSBL rifles. Sights are actually aligned unlike I saw a few years back. 2 out of the 3 rifles I looked at had a loose forend.

But damn are they nice looking and practical!

Nice! The CSBL was not in the budget unfortunately so settled on the plain ol "C" Delivered yesterday.

Nothing wrong with that. I was hesitant to spend so much but its a nice rifle, and I get my rifles wet being in different types of weather, and they do start to rust pretty quick. Now I dont have to worry about it. Plus I am obsessed with short barreled carbines haha.

I like the traditional look of the model c though, its a nice rifle.

That is one ###y beast! Enjoy.

Well so far she's not disappointing... 40yds open sights. Could do better with a smaller rear peep sight and better lighting probably.

Nice! What ammo did you use? Did you try .38 spcl?

Blazer brass 357 magnum jhp. No I didn't do 38 spl as I am trying to build up my brass for 357. The cost difference isn't really anything if you reload so I'll be shooting pretty much exclusively 357. I'll try some 38spl at some point just because.

I recently picked up a new production 1894CB in .357 from Reliable Gun. Out of the box looked well machined/fitted, had it at the range today with no issues to report.

Bought an 1894 CSBL and discovered the forward pillar nut of the XS Sight rail was missing. While I handled it in the store, I did not notice until I got it home and was mounting a red dot onto the rail. Contacted Marlin, they said contact Gravel which I did and have a ticket opened. I did try contacting XS Sights but they could not help since I'm in Canada, told me to contact Gravel. Apart from that, it performs fine.
