Marlin rimfire bolt action rifles... question

I just picked up a Marlin 917VS from someone on the site here.
Beautiful rifle, and very well built.
My only issue with this (as a varmint rifle) the safety makes a very audible click, has anyone found a way to soften the click? or a replacement safety?
I may just live with it or try to tale some of the springyness out of it.

If its like my 880, which I suspect it is, after it gets worked it quiets down a bit. If you absolutely want to engage/disengage quietly, you can push it out to the right while pushing/pulling and then ease it back into the groove.

Not necessarily, in the last two years I have called in many foxes to less than 30 yds, last year I called one in and shot it at 4 yds, mind you at that range the click ain't gonna matter.
