Marlin scope base

I just got a new Marlin XS7C for Christmas
It comes with a one piece scope base on it. And as it has no detachable mag the shells have to be loaded from the top. I'm thinking of cutting out the center *bridge* of the base to allow easier loading.
Thoughts for or against?

The mag works just fine with the one-piece base. Don't cut it.

I have the XL7, and I did not like the look of the one piece base. I slapped on 2 piece ones.
