marlin ss guide gun in 450?

I don't know if the SS is available in 450 marlin. Why not go with the 45-70? The performance between the two is virtually identical when handloading 45-70.

I shot 30 rounds of 420 grain craters over 48.0 grains of h4198 and my shoulder was done. That was through a 45-70, and those bullets would be just as punishing out of a 450.

I don't think the 450 Marlin is available in stainless.

If you want it because you think that the 450 Marlin is "hotter" than the 45/70, then you are mistaken, as the reverse is true. The limit here is the Marlin action, and since the 45/70 has 3-6 grs more capacity (4-8%) than the 450 Marlin, the 45/70 is good for 25-50 fps over the 450 Marlin at the same pressure. BTW, the 450 Marlin guys, when backed into a corner, claim that the 450 Marlin brass is stronger, but that's not true, and has been proven at well over the presure limit of the Marlin.

But if you want a 450 Marlin, you should go for it.

why must people instantly bash the .450? it will do everything the .45-70 can do and visa vesa. PERIOD. of course you have to handload to get .450 performance out of a .45-70.

to answer your question - no the .450 was never offered in a Stainless 1894
