Marlin takeover by Remington

Was looking at my Marlin 1895 45-70 today and trying to figure out if I have one built after the Rem takeover or before. Are there any special markings to look for? TIA

A Marlin has JM on the left side of the barrel in front of the receiver.
The Remington prouction has a REP on the right side of the barrel in front of the receiver.
 
The JM mark does not mean that it was built before the Remington takeover. Some of the problem rifles were built in the Marlin plant when Remington had already started to make changes. I would be most suspicious of the 2009,2010, and 2011 models.

but the production only had to be stopped for quality issues after moving to Kentucky/New York.

The problems started when the rifles were still being built in the Marlin plant, but production wasn't stopped until the number of complaints became too many to ignore.
 
Thanks guys. I checked the barrel and it's got the initials JM on the left side just ahead of the receiver. Nothing on the right side. Went and dug through 40 years of firearms receipts, transfers, registrations (remember the old yellow and then green pieces of paper in Ontario), etc and found a sales receipt from Wholesale Sports in Edmonton in early 2007 for the Marlin. I'm hoping that means no Remington input. The gun functions perfectly and the only changes I've made are installing a Skinner ghost sight and filing off a sharp edge on the loading gate. :D

It's really sad some of the crap they have shipped in the past couple of years. I really want a 1895 gbl 45/70. I was looking at a couple locally not too long ago and they were just junk. Sharpe edges, action felt like it had sand in it and the stock finish really sucked. I think these models are a couple of years old, so not necessarily reflective of current shipments. I compared it to a older guide gun they had in stainless and it was knight and day. I just can't believe that crap made it past their QA.

I look at my .308 BLR Lightweight. From the first day I brought it home is was so slick and everything felt solid. No machining marks and so well finished.
