The JM mark does not mean that it was built before the Remington takeover. Some of the problem rifles were built in the Marlin plant when Remington had already started to make changes. I would be most suspicious of the 2009,2010, and 2011 models.
but the production only had to be stopped for quality issues after moving to Kentucky/New York.
I've got an 1895 & a 1894 CB LTD, both JM 2009 manufacture. Neither have any cosmetic or function issues.
