Marlin X7 rifles do it again!

I picked up a XS7C in .308 last fall after using my Savage 12FV in .308 for deer hunting. The Savage's 26 inch heavy barrel was just that...barrel heavy. Plus its recoil pad was a recycled hockey puck I'm sure. (Have to say I love the large Savage bolt handle over the Marlin though)

The Marlin is soooo much easier to handle (2 1/4 lbs lighter) and the recoil pad is to die for. (1 inch of soft foam rubber)

I took it to the range, installed the scope on the bench right there, bore sighted it and the very first three rounds through it were touching at 50 yrds. 150gr Federal PowerShok. I was impressed considering my abilities and using a rifle I had never fired before.
Yep, its a keeper. :D

However, the jury is still out whether to keep the Savage .308

The Stevens rifles are just as accurate, but the trigger, stock and a real recoil pad make the Marlin a far better rifle, IMO.

Here's the best group shot with my XL7 in 270 Win.

And, it has shot many other groups under an inch, with various brands and weights from 100 to 150 grains.

Just great hunting rifles!

My XL7 30/06 just showed up here from the postman. I got this on the EE a few days back.

Haven't shot it yet, but based on initial impression, this is a very good deal. Even at the new price for a new gun, it's well worth it for what you get, and based upon the reports of others, it should be a good shooter. I like it! :)

How so?

Hey SuperCub.
I've been looking around for a .243 Win, but I've kinda been holding out for one with Iron Sights - I'm a little old fashioned I guess. But from all
accounts the Marlin seems to be a pretty decent rig for less then half the price of anything else I've looked at. So I'm kinda thinking maybe I should do
without the irons, for now anyhow, and give the Marlin a try. At that price, what's the harm, right.

..........never mind......... figured it out..............

Anyway, NAA, if your still asking, talked with WSS Store #1 in Edmonchuk and
they had one .243 in Black Composite @ $389.95, Camo Composite @ $430ish
and wood cost even more. How many they have in the Cowtown warehouse, I
couldn't tell you, but usually it's more. And I'm pretty sure the .243 Black
composite I talked about is already spoken for.:D

Thanks for the tip.

On the post above, I was trying to figure out the model numbers but then went on the Marlin website and it was pretty much self explanatory so I edited my post.

I bought my XS7 in 7mm-08 from Shooter's Choice (in Alberta...not Ontario company) last year and I'm sure it would produce similar results to what I have seen on this thread if only I could make it so. A very nice light accurate rifle. I will leave it in my will...

Well, it is good to see them available again, especially for under $400. Here's a couple of 30-06 groups from two different XL7s.

Bought two, intending to rebarrel one to 9.3X62, but both rifles shot so well the project went a different direction.
