Just read about the Marlin 1895 XLR, now that is one beautiful lever action. It's been designed aropund the new Hornady LEVERevolution ammunition which looks to be the cat's ass but I'm sick and tired of reading about them already and want to shoot off a few. So is this ammunition available in Canada yet? Anyone know?

Ammo is available in Canada. I've seen it for sale at my local pro shop. (Sorry, Ottawa area!)The Marlin folks like to say they designed the rifle around this ammo, but all it is is a stainless version of the old 336A rifle which was resurrected as the ER model in the '80's. I've always wanted a 24" Marlin, and I think this rifle should be an excellent variant, provided one doesn't have to carry it in the truly deep dark dirty brush, where the extra length could be a detriment.

Leverevoultion

Bringing this back from the archives, does anyone know specifically which retailer carries this ammo? I've been trying like hell to locate this ammo and get it sent up mailorder to me here in Alberta, I should be able to eh? Can anyone help?

yep, ammo is available for 45/70 325 grain, and it is in stores now. sold all three boxes we had in the shop

it is the highest pressure factory load ever made by the big ammo companies (Winchester Remington Federal or Hornady)

2025 fps with a 325 grainer, compared to 300 grainers @ 1880 fps

It's available right here on the board in whatever size you would like.

Just PM d.bala

He can get it for you. I bought two boxes of 30-30 from him a month ago. It is great ammunition for lever actions. Only problem is that I had to adjust my ramp for 100 yards. It is a lot flatter bullet.

WSM vs RSAUM

I was just looking at the listing of new firearms on P&D website and I see Remington M-700's chambered in the Winchester Short Mags but no Rem M-700's chambered for any Remington Short-Action Ultra Mags.

I think we can officially declare that WSM has knocked off the RSAUM!!

And I think this is a good thing... :)

Do you!?

I think it's fantastic that someone's breathing a little life back into the 'ole levers and getting people to take a second look.

New hunters especially have been handed a line about needing big blasters that can go thru 5 moose at 1000 yards. Good to give people a little perspective.

I tried a few boxes of the 3030 lever evolution ammo last week at the range in my 336 ss and the difference to regular 170 gr soft points is amazing. The 3030 stuff is 160gr, the design is fantastic and results will not dissapoint, I will try to post some range pics but for those who love lever guns especially the good ol 3030 it opens up new possibilities as far as a reliable 200 yard deer blaster........

I just bought an 1895MXLR in .450 Marlin. I havn't shot it yet. I hope to this weekend. I expect that Lebarons will carry the new Leverevolution ammo when its available. I bought a few boxes of Hornady's flatnose .450's and it's supposed to be pretty powerfull. The new stuff will be even faster. Can hardly wait to make some noise!

If the Marlin 1895MXLR had been available when I bought my Guide gun I woulda got it over the shorter 1895GS.

Well there's always been a longer barrel 1895 - this is just a little longer than that.

The guide gun is meant for a specific use. Just like short barreled and long barreled shotguns.

no way can the 30 30 match 308. how many ammo choices with the 308, standard bullets, lots of premium and even high energy loads. the 308 can achieve 2700 to 2800 fps with 165 grn bullets. most 30 30 have 20 inch barrels and will never see the veocity printed by hornady. lever evolution is an upgrade but will never make the 30 30 a high velocity round.
