Marlin XS7 in 243 caliber

They Shoot. Go buy one.

Mine is a 7mm-08, it's reasonably light, comfortable, good trigger, nice action, accurate. The only thing I would complain about is the fact that it's a blind magazine, but I can work around that.

hei Ormachek, good gun :)) I have one like this but in .243 :)

have you done anything to your rifle: bedding, barrel freefloating, trigger, something else?

these rifles are great for the money, considering $25 mail-in rebate for 2010, but need some improvements, but it`s just IMHO :)))))))

Haven't touched a thing. The barrel is floated from the factory, they come pillar bedded from the factory (I am thinking about glass bedding too, just for sh*t's and giggles). Even the factory trigger is pretty good! All I did was work up a decent load for it! Which was pretty easy too.

The barrel shouldn't be floated from the factory. It has a pressure point at the front of the fore-end of the stock.

My father just fired a 1.2" group at 200 yards yesterday when we went out to the range with his XS7 in 7mm-08. Both my father and my brother's guns (both XS7's) will shoot just a bit over 1/2MOA at 200 yards with consistently. My brother's is a .308. Not too shabby from a 100% factory $400 rifle. I'm impressed to say the least.

The second the XS7 comes with a walnut stock like the XL7 now does, I'll be buying one in .308!

for $650? screw that - thats very close to a price range where there are better options.
the appeal of the XS7/XL7 is that its a slightly improved Stevens 200 - an accurate budget gun... put a walnut or laminate stock on it and jack the price up from $350 to $650 and it loses all of its appeal.
(quoting LeBarons prices for their laminate & walnut XL7s).

My bad, I just assumed it was floated, I've never actually checked.

noooooooooo.... not the damned 700 'pressure point' business again :(
it used to be a total crapshoot on the 700 CDLs whether or not removing the pressure point would make it shoot better, or worse :runaway:

All I know is mine shoots good enough as is! I should be resisting the urge to "upgrade" my rifle.

I've read of a couple of guys on other forums that have removed the pressure point, floated the barrel, and bedded the action, and the rifles are now shooting one-hole groups.

My father and brother's rifles are shooting so nicely in factory condition, that I'm not really too motivated to try floating and bedding them. I could always put another epoxy pressure pad in the fore-end if the rifles shot worse after floating, but seeing as the stock is a stable synthetic that shouldn't be shifting at all, I'm not going to bother.

Mine is a 30-06, not a .243, and for a hunting rifle I think its perfect, and I will not be worrying about pressure points and such. Here are a couple groupings I got last year. Every time I pulled the trigger this past deer season it was a "bang flop" I could not be happier with such an inexpensive rifle.

Ah, I was not aware that the price difference was so significant. I'll clearly have to re-think that one.
