Been looking for a 22 as my first rifle and set my eyes on the Marlin Xt-22 with hardwood stock in 22lr.
Things I like about this rifle includes that it has iron sights, steel receiver, decent trigger, wood stock and almost no plastics parts. My budget is around 300cad.
I passed rifles like Marlin 795 and Ruger 1022 (plastic trigger, alloy receiver) and CZs (no iron sights, price).
Any advices? Should I just grab the xt-22 or there's better options out there?
Thanks

I bought a marlin XT-22 for my first rifle and I would recommend it to anyone. It's accurate with iron sights, everything feels well built and you can find a lot of spare magazines for them.
Hope this helps

I like Marlin build quality, at least the older ones (before Remington) better than Savage. Felt beefier, more robust with smoother bolt action. But my Savage MKIIF was just a tad more accurate than my 2 Marlin 981T (bolt action, tube magazine). Sold both Marlins. Still have the MKIIF and got a MKIIG and MKIGY.

i got the xt as my first still my only bolt 22 ,,,accurate out of the box no upgrade needed

highly recommend them both every chance i am asked
cheers

I have a recently made, wood stock version and I love it. I also have the 795 and love that these two share mags. I wish 795s came in a wood stock, stainless setup. Back to the topic at hand, the xt is a fine shooter.

I have an XT-17 in 17 HMR, love that rifle!! Can shoot crows with it at 100+ yards all day long. Nothing wrong with the .22LR, if you plan on shooting a lot that's the caliber to buy. Much cheaper to shoot than the 17, I pay $24 for a box of 50. Nice to have the extra distance though for shooting groundhogs, crows, fox, etc.
