Marlins version of the 375Win?

CGNrs after a breif thread a while ago discussing the marlin 375 i was going to have a sale on, it fell through but the other has popped up with a bit more gear to boot
after a couple of Texts i slipped in a mention that i would be keen to trade my Tikka T3 9.3 on this gun and I got a bite!

I've decided if he is keen for the Swap it is something i will jump on simply because i can acquire more tikkas but these 375 winchester in particular a scopeable one, is hard to find.

i paid as much for my Kimber though which is a bit of a jaw clencher but the trade over for $0 eases the clench.


Question is
Whos actually had or Owns one of these Marlin .375winchesters?

i would like to chat about them specifically , and perhaps how much velocity i can expect from AR2207 and 200 Grain jacketed rounds?

What is $1600 Aus in Canadian pesos?

I think If you Google fu, the 375 win is a Bush range proposition. Does Hornady make a ftx in 375? Get a serial number, I assume it's a JM, not a remlin? Older the better....pre 2009 for sure.

Given the issues with (g)remlins and late marlin JM's, is it possible to handle it. Check for smoothness of action, fit, finish, straight sights?

No it is not post 2009, it is a 1980 model.. real deal.

i have a Winchester 375 BigBore already- totally aware of the cartridge, never had a Marlin though, welcoming a scoped sister to the big bore clan, hopefully soon.

the way i thought about it, im not shooting anything any further with a 9.3x62 than i will with a 375 winchester, its bush stalking where a 200m shot is a fair way and 250 would not show up on the rangefinder much at all! (in that country i take kimber 7-08)

i use Cast in my Winchester, i would like to load Jacketed 200s for the Scoped Marlin!
 
The Marlin 375 was produced from 1980 to 1983. IIRC there were about 16,000 made.

Can't help with load data, I'm only familiar with the 200g Winchester Power Point ammunition.
 
Whelan Lad. The 375 Winchester in a Marlin should be a winner.
With any bullet from 220 grains up to 255 grains, H322 is your friend
My Legendary frontiersman 38-55 shoots the 255 grain SP bullet at
1750, using 32 grains of H322, and stellar accuracy. Dave.

i used the 9.3x62 today on a nice sambar Stag, the 375 would of done the same job from the distance an situation.. yet the 93 worked well lol

not really- AU dollar an different world as far as guns an ammo goes lol.

a Brand new Marlin 336 30-30 is $1000-$1200 the later for stainless... so expect to pay a premium for an old RARE gun like this- ok
then add the components and some Brass in the price and a Bushnell HD 1-5x ($260-$280) , an apparently its got some trigger in it, regardless, in Aus, its kind of worth that money..

The 375 Winchester in a Marlin should be a winner.

As the owner of a Marlin, Winchester, Savage and a 14" Contender all in .375WCF I don't think that is a bad deal considering what all it comes with. 16,315 were manufactured almost 40 years ago and how many made it to your land? How often do you see one come up for sale? It's just a guess on my part but I doubt if a 1000 made it to Canada and in the last year I have seen 5 or 6 for sale in various condition for
$8-1000cdn.
Add up the price of included components= Scope/mounts $280. Mould $60-80. Brass @ $1-1.50ea. Bullets, dies and misc, your in the ballpark that we would pay for all that too. Just remember to pick up your brass of the ground- I got lucky and shelf picked more than I'll ever use back when it was available. It will serve you well I'm thinking from your hunting stories I have read.
 
My Lee reloading manual states a 200gr jacketed bullet with max 40gr of accurate 1680 pushes it to 2512 fps
A max charge of 42gr (compressed) of H322 can get you 2419 fps
Not bad really. A lot better than 30-30 ballistics. What powders do you have? This book lists loads for:

VEC SP3
VEC SP10
I am unsure if you have any of those powders down there and if they use the same names if you do.

Gday mate, i rekon H4198 is the equiv to AR2207........ as is rl 7- the others ive not heard of but i did a quick search on adi website, they have equivilents, not to be used gr for gr of course, but similiar burn rates..

h322 - ar2219

acc 1680 - ar2205

thats abuout it lol.

but yes- certainly 200 gr at 2300+ if can out of 20 inch tube, thats plenty for what i will need it to do !

Post Phone call regarding Marlin, an old mate isnt too keen on a plastic light 9.3, but hasnt closed the door on the offer...

good news is- keepin the tikka lol, 9.3 is growin on me sort of

I have both the '94 and Marlin in 375 Win and have harvested moose, black bear and caribou out to 120 yards with both over the years using the 200 gr factory ammo and the Hornady 220 gr FN laoded with 32.2 gr of IMR4198 at approx 2000 fps out of my Marlin. with a fixed 2.5 power Leupold in quick detachable rings, this rifle will keep 5 rounds inside of an inch at 100 yards when I do my part. I nicknamed the Marlin "Thumper", as every animal shot has thumped the ground! It is such a fun rifle to shoot and hunt with!
I also have a supply of the Sierra 200 gr fp's, but have not yet worked up a load. Will most likely load these for the '94 as the Hdy works so well in my Marlin. Luckily I have a good supply of brass and bullets for this cartridge still.

As stated above, the Marlin was only built for a few years about 1980.

The Marlin is a great rifle, easy to mount a scope on (except for the AE), and is a stronger action then the '94.

I would not push this load on big game past 150 yards, as at 200 yards, it is only packing just over 700 ft-lbs of energy.

The 9.3x62 packs a lot more performance!

I would keep the 9.3 for bigger game and longer shots, and use the 375 Win for close range hunting, for which it is better suited.
 
The 2 reasons that kept me from grabbing the Marlin 375 back in the day were:

1) I've never been a fan of the lever pivot on Marlins as they are in the way of the sweet spot for one handed carry.
2) Marlin micro-groove rifling sucks for cast boolits at speeds above 1500 fps or so.

The Winchester 94 was the best fer me along with the Savage 99 in .375 that i hunted with in the early 80's.

Mate thanks for your reply! awesom to hear of someone who has thumped some game with the 375 winnie!

i somewhat steered away from another 375 winnie, at the moment i have the 9.3 for sale and a new 3006 in the safe! a happy middle gun
