Marlins?

So with all the talk about Remington owning Marlin and the quality suffering and of course Remington now owning H&R and NEF I was wondering about build locations.

Marlins of old were marked New Haven Connecticut and more recent Marlins are marked North Haven Connecticut. So I assume they moved their plant a few miles somewhere in the past.

So are the rimfires that Marlin makes in North Haven lower quality because Remington has somehow destroyed the craftmanship there?

Or are they still decent guns?
 
I just bought my first Marlin before Christmas and it works like a charm. Granted, it's a 795...about as inexpensive a gun as they make. My personal opinion is that for the rimfires~I'd have no hesitation. If it were anything else, I'd like to see it in my hands before I buy it. I base that only on things I've heard, not personal experience.

Generally speaking though, it's in Remington's best interest to keep QC where it was, or better...as they know legions of Marlin fans will be watching closely. At the end of the day, it's your hard-earned $ though.
 
Still decent guns yes. But the newer guns are not marked North Haven, those were actually built by marlin for decades. The new guns built by remington are marked "Illion".
The rimfires are about the same as the old ones with the odd Q/C issue, but same great design. The lever action centerfire guns have been a bit iffy because they take a good bit of craftsmanship to build them so that they function properly everytime.
 
I bought an 1895G a few months ago, it's been great fun, for what it is. Granted sitting next to a Steyr Manlicher it ain't much to look at, but as far as function I have no complaints. The fit of the stock isn't perfect (could have been sanded down a little more near the tang) and there was one hairline thickness blemish on the finish of the barrel (scratched prior to boxing?). The trigger is a little heavy to my taste (very smooth, but heavy) and if it doesn't even out after a few hundred rounds, I'll start fiddling. I'm changing the recoil pad and instead of a scope, I've ordered Skinner sights.

I like that its very simple to disassemble (1 screw), which I can't say about my Savage 99 with rotary mag.
 
Thanks for the info as I just got a birthday present which I'm pretty excited about. A reasonably priced 60SS, scoped plinker that I'm sure will work well. I hope anyways.

Nice looking rifle Target.
I have a Marlin 981T (bolt action tube fed) with a cheapie Bushnell 3-9x40 and always surprised how accurate it shoots (bulk ammo) for a combo ~$250. The Micro Groove barrel simply works!
Enjoy the new rifle....
