Been looking at a couple of Marlin 336 SS models, and wondered just how much of the gun is actually made of stainless steel. Is it just a coating, like the Mossberg 464, or is it actually real stainless? How is accuracy compared to other models, and is the gun better finished internally?

Major components as per the website; "solid-top stainless steel receiver, barrel, lever, trigger guard plate, magazine tube and loading gate; hammer block safety" are made of stainless steel, not coated.

It is about the same accuracy wise, certainly no worse, the internal finishing is about the same, but personally I find non stainless moving components will wear in slightly better with less friction than stainless. If thats a concern to you you can paste in some valve lapping compound and cycle the action till you wear blisters in your hands and it will be slightly better.

I would prefer a stainless rifle over a blued action, though i'd like to have it cera-kote'd ot painted to be not quite as reflective for a hunting rig.
