It seems I now have a nicely tweeked Norc 1911A1 thanks to EE.
Anything wrong with these mags (other than they don't hold enough :)? Looking for facts, not anti-Norc opinion ;)

Another option are the MecGars @$25 - I've not had a problem with MecGars in other guns and they are the OEM for many european makers. I'm not planning to shoot IPSC with this gun, so I really don't see the point in spending big bucks for "name brand" mags...

Edited to add:
Question two: I'm thinking of adding a beavertail to this gun, but keeping the original hammer. Again, Marstar shows two or three beavertails for their Norks - I'm given to believe they are drop-in (yes, I understand that little on a 1911 is a drop-in). Can anybody confirm if these are a drop-in on a Nork, which one specifically (black)? If I have to modify the butt, there are quite a number I can choose out there.) BTW, "drop-in" doesn't mean "with a huge gap between the end of the gun and the start of the tail" like I've seen on some...

Thanks!

The Norinco 1911 mags are both sturdy and reliable. The other aftermarket 9.99$ with "Colt 45" written on the baseplate are garbage. But you can use them until the break, and they will break. The norinco mags have the original desing follower.

If you've "tweeked" your 1911 don't "cheap out" on mags. Get some high quality after marked ones. You'll be glad you did... ;)

As I rummage through the Marstar site, I'm getting that the $9.95 "col-018" mags are the cheapie ones you mention, not Norc originals... they don't seem to list the factory mag as a separate item. Ok, will dig further. NAA, I don't disagree, but I ain't paying $80 a pop for mags... :)

I am a huge fan of Wilson Mags, I also dont mind Shooting Star mags but I prefer Wilsons.

The last ones I bought were off Ebay, they were $120 for 6 which was a hell of a deal. They landed here for about $160 Cdn once all was said and done.

I'm with ya on that... I've picked up several high quality 1911 mags - 8 rounders, stainless bodies, good followers, base bumpers etc - off the site here & at gun shows at very reasonable cost... ;)

So the $9.00 mags at marstar are not the Norinco ones?

I think they're "Triple K" brand mags. The pair that I have both needed the little leg on the follower tuned to relaibly catch the slide stop and prevent last round FTE's.

I'll also second the choice of the Wilson's . If I've learned anything it's not to cheap out on the mags . Nothing worsr than having your day at the range ended early because you wanted to save a couple bucks. If you can't shoot it ,it just becomes an expensive paper weight.

Well, I dunno. The way Marstar has the pages laid out, its hard to tell. I think they are, but I'm not sure. I guess i'll just have to ask them ;) Where's Peter when you need him?
Andy and I bought a few, there were blued and parked ones for $9.95, both norincos (parked I think come with the commanders) as they had the same electro pencil numbers. It looks like the other mag that the guns were shipped with.....

While I love my Norks the mgas are junk IMHO. Got some McCormick PRo Mags from Brownell's - $24.95 US. Sure a long way from paying $80. Dressing up a NOrinco with new sights, trigger group et and then using the mags seems to me to defeat the purpose of building a quality shooter.

Take Care

Bob

First thing I did with my new to me NP29 was to park the original Norinco mags in the plastic case and buy a handful of MecGar mags. Life's been great.

Now I've been shopping all around and I've found Pachmayr's , Original Colt (MecGar made), and more MecGars. Oh yah, I'm shooting the NP29 in 9mm platform.

Cheers,
Barney

I have a Nork pistol, and I bought a pile of the cheap mags.

The Nork mags that came with the pistol have no marking on the bottom of the mas. The cheap ones are marked as Colt .45 auto...so it's fair to say that the mags are not the same.

BTW, I have no illusions about the cheap mags being as good as high end ones, but so far they are fine.
