marstar 70,000/10,000 SKS, eta aug 20th, price $189 new military.

If ou check out the photos on Marstar's Facebook page, you will see that the sample gun they show is a typical Factory 306. It looks like the PLA is shipping Marstar their guns from the same depot that sent guns recently to Tradex and North Sylva.

In other words, Marstar is not going to be a game-changer on this new Chinese military SKS import. Other dealers are already at the $189 price point - some are even lower - with the Factory 625 and 306 guns.

What may prove more interesting is if the 70,000 African ones are more varied.

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised. With Marstar's relationship with the Chinese Norinco group, I'd have thought John would ensure they'd at least get guns from a different depot or arsenal so that they are selling a somewhat different product than everyone else.

We were all "younger" then....

Those pics may be 20 years old, so probably different shipment of guns.

What means much better? My Norinco SKS shoots great and I don't have any quality issues.

Most shooters if you asked them what they thought of the commercially made Chinese SKS's would tell you they had poor groupings, poor fitting, poor workmanship, basic quality wood, etc. The ones you see in the country now (like the ones we sell) were better made, higher tolerances, more solid, etc. Russia made their SKS's better than almost everyone. (maybe excluding Yugoslavia) Lots of people when they got their orangey colored stock SKS quickly tossed the stock and put a tactical one on it, or scrounged for a Russian one.

What would be nice is to see SKS's come into the country from other arsenals to compare production.

3) No english anywhere on the rifle, especially not the calibre or the word "norinco".
Mine says 'SKS 762x39 made in china'
Not sure if it's a military one, but all parts are milled(I beleive) and threaded barrel.
If there are better made ones then I'd be impressed.

not all the "commercial" guns were hurriedly assembled from spare parts for the commercial market. Many "commercial" guns were jsut military made guns with the receiver markings milled off and a commercial stamp applied. This kills any value for a collector, but could still make a good shooter.

In order to determine what type you have, detailed pics would be needed.

Of further note, ALL SKS parts are military surplus. The difference is the commercial guns are quickly thrown together from surplus or reject spare parts and typically don't have proper military characteristics or markings. The fit and finish is also usually inferrior.

Ah, I'm not worried about military v. commercial then, one solid built shooter is all I need.
Although... another sks couldn't hurt...

PMed ya some pics anyways.

PLEASE, PLEASE get your facts together before issuing statements....

"In other words, Marstar is not going to be a game-changer on this new Chinese military SKS import"
You do not have the details of the contract, yes a very small lot was sold to a Canadian importer.... Once the Chinese approached us I sent Frank over to do an inspection, we purchased the entire lot on the spot.... As well as contracted for other goods.

" Other dealers are already at the $189 price point - some are even lower - with the Factory 625 and 306 guns."
You have no idea as to what our markering plan is, do you ?

What has the Norinco group got to do with this contract ??
I was not aware that you checked out all the guns, was that before or after we were there ??

This posting is a perfect example of why we are hesitant to talk about something before it get here....

Not certain I understand what your point/question is ?? Yes the pictures I posted are 20 yrs old, but what shipment are we discussing here ? I have gone through many shipments in the past 20 yrs.

John

Think he was referring to the factory the rifles came from.
As we've already seen factory 306, like the one pictured.
He was just saying that just cause you have factory 306 in one picture, it does not mean all the rifles you're bringing in will be factory 306

Claven I don't bring in hundreds I bring in thousands. I am a wholesaler first and then mail in order store. My next container due to arrive is 40" one. I go through same thing as John. I fly out to choose which ones I want to bring. Each and every rifle I inspect for quality. Shipping is 1.5 month from Russian port to the port Vancouver. Registration takes 1 day for me for each 2500 hundred rifles. Anyway maybe things different in Africa. As to sending something to states. It is too much to bother. Not worth it.

A 40 inch container couldnt hold to many guns . ;)

Hi John,

I've known you for a few years now and you know I'm not typically in the business of trying to slag Marstar or you personally. Speculation is what the internet is all about and until you publicly say otherwise, it's all we poor internet folks have!

The observations I made are based on what your staff posted on the Marstar Facebook page. They showed pics of what is a "typical" gun coming form the new shipment. It's a factory 306 pinned barrel rifle. It's identical to the hundreds of them North Sylva recently imported. Maybe you have lots of other factory codes coming in, and if so, that's great! So far we, as an internet community have only been shown a 306 which is status quo for hte Canadian market at present.

I don't have any insider info on your marketing strategy, but another poster here claims to have called and was told over the phone they would be $189ea. All speculation on here has been centered around that figure for the last couple of days.

As for Norinco, they are typically the state agency the PLA uses to sell these guns, presumably even to you :) The PLA has access to all the dozens of factory codes out there and if you are bringing in a big variety of codes, that's fantastic and really good news. I hope you do!

Was pointing out that you said the pics are 20 years old, so I doubt that shipment is the same shipment that is actually coming in. As Claven was basing his info on the pics from my understanding.

I'll just wait until I get the official word from John/Marstar. There is always soo much blah blah blah.:p

The price isn't blah blah blah. I just checked, John posted it on twitter and Facebook.

The question in my mind is whether there will be a variety of Factory codes or only 306 and 625 guns. I'll buy more if there is variety. If not, I already have those factories ;)

You all knew he meant 40 foot container and he knew what he was trying to say. Man, sometimes people get so hung up on the stupidest things.

Modular transportation doesn't use 40 yard containers either.

LONE WOLF;
I was replying to a question regarding the Guatemala pictures....
The pictures from the factory in China were taken last fall when our inspection of the stocks was conducted....
