Everytime a shipment of SKS rifles are coming, I never have any cash.
On the plus side, it's usually because I bought a different rifle.

You certainly can. You just can not buy "non-sporting" Chinese made arms. SKS, AK, M14, Type 97, pistols. Guys are selling newly imported Chinese shotguns, 22's and whatnot in the USA. CanadaAmmo will be selling his line of Dominion Arms shotguns (made in China by Hawk Industries) into the USA soon-ish.
 
A year ago I tryed to order a new sear for my Chinese SKS from a place in New York, there they told me to buy a part for an SKS I needed to get a new york restricted weapons permit and it was only good for the one order...then it would expire, the sear was only about 10 bucks the permit was 35.... strict rules it seems for SKS rifles in the states ...I asked why and thier tech gave me some story about how you can convert an SKS to full auto... can do that to a lee enfield too if you wanted to and had a machine shop :D
 
i said it before when it comes to SKS , we have it much better than the US .
our only down side is the dredded pinning of the mag.

but we dont have .
1. no chinese and russian SKS ban .
2. no, import stamp , altho we may be getting them in the future so SKS collectors better keep what you got.
3. no, compliance regulation 933r on some SKS.
4. some russian SKS had cyrillic letters translated on the receiver.
5. at one point they ban SKS bayo.
 
hmmm whats compliance 933r? and what about SKS bayo's?....I've never followed up much on SKS rifles in Canada in the past so could you enlighten me please.

922r is a convoluted law that dictates how many US manufactured parts an imported firearm (which has evil features like pistol grips, bayonet lugs and whatnot) needs to contain to make it compliant. I think AKM rifles need 5 US made components, usually FCG and gas piston.

For example: You want to put a detatchable magazine conversion on your SKS in the USA. To do this you need to make your rifle 922r compliant, otherwise you have created an illegal assault rifle. So you have to buy all these parts:

922r Combo Kit:

This combo includes the SKS T6 Stock, the SKS Operating Rod, The SKS Gas Piston, and the SKS 5rd Detachable Mag, for a total of 8 compliance parts.

Now your rifle is 100% 922r compliant and you won't go to jail.

My knowledge on this may be a little bit fuzzy as have not thought about it since my father lived in the US for a bit and that was a few years ago.

I stand by this info as I import them into Canada. (Only mistake is 922)
You are right they may implement new laws but as always it has been postponed until next. I belive December 1 2010 I got it in the mail and this info available on CFC web page.
That is kick back that we will get as soon as they cancel long gun registration.
