Hi folks just got a small order from Marstar [ great place ] and bought 1x AI 308 10 round mag for the Norc M305 thinking it would fit and I could legally shoot 10 rounds. I tried it in the gun and the fit is WAY off but on a good note it did fit my Ruger Gunsite Scout.I know the info is probably here somewhere so without too much negative banter what mag is the proper one to shoot x10 rounds legally? note# The search function hates me!

The AI compatible magazine that Marstar sells is for the Accuracy International system, NOT the AIA Australian International Arms rifle. Two entirely different companies. The Ruger is designed around the AI type, so the CProducts magazine that Marstar sells may well work. A Ruger factory plastic magazine might or might not work in an AI system mag. housing, because of the ribs cast into the box.
For a 10 rounder for your M-14, you will need an AIA magazine. There are reports that magazines are coming.

Thanx for the informative answer I am the first to admit I do not know too much about guns but I appreciate the info you maniacs have !

No wonder, I dont know how you can shoot 10 rounds legally out of a Norc M305. Maybe I lost something here? If Marstars offers 10 round mags for your Norc M305 rifle, they are not Kosher according to the Canadian gun laws. Most Likely it is a 10 round clip with a block at 5 rounds or it is made for another type of rifle that is not made for what you wish to have. Dream ON, if you want 10+ rounds out of a Norc M305 it wont happen. BTY Marstar does not usually have alot of stuff in stock for M305, seems like they are out of stock most of the year. Just an observation.

okay.
let's slow things down a bit here.
We know that bolt action, lever action do not have mag limits.
The ten round mags are for AIA .308 BOLT ACTION rifles that fit in the m14.
much like lar 10 round pistol mags in ar mag wells, these magazines are legal to use because they are not produced for a semi automatic firearms, and are clearly marked as such.
The fact that they happen to fit and function WITHOUT modification allows them to be legal to use in other rifles.

Here's a link on YouTube from a guy explaining the magazine semi auto laws... If its on YouTube it's gotta be true... right ;p

Ya, I was just wondering how the AIA mag would be legal to use in a Norc M305 semi auto, even if it may fit, but I have been branded as a fool , so, I guess I will not get the proper answers here and have to go to the fool retention area or whatever. BTY, some comments here are somewhat derogative (not you Xsolozx) but the youtube video does not seem to work for me. Seems that it was blocked or something. Anyway I dont shoot more than 5 rounds at a time and use the thing for hunting, so not really a big problem to have 5 rounds in it.
Carry ON! and I shall overlook certain comments made by another person in Calgary. Must of had too much single malt that day?

You answer is that magazine are classified on what firearm they were designed for. Not what firearms they may function in.

I think so, that was my first qestion, my second one was the legality of a 10 round Mag in a semi auto even if some products fit.

He already answered your question! If it was designed for a bolt action it is unlimited capacity. It does not matter if it fits other rifles. If it was designed for a pistol it is limited to 10, it does not matter if it fits a rifle.

TX, Got it. And, got an education on mags etc. That is why I joined CGN, great place great guys. I have been shooting for over 40 years but not always on top of finer technical details like this. Just tried to keep it legit and enjoy the sport, in my spare time. As I mentioned, the rifles I own are mostly used for hunting so, the mag rules are quite known in that area, but needed clarifications on other, Military type rifles such as the M305, because, I will also use it for hunting and target shooting. BTY I hunt with a small clip with only 4 rounds in it. I figure if it dont go down after the first round I have 3 more left to call for help:bangHead:
Best regards to all and Tx again for your help in this matter.

Just to clarify the mag limit laws do not override the provincial hunting regs where you are. So you still need to follow those regs regardless of the mag you are using in you firearm while hunting.
