Marstar M14 Arrival Report and pictures

A question from a non M305 owner, for those who got the miss matched and/or molded rifles. Were you notified in advance of these short comings? If not, I would be one unhappy customer!

Youd think so (about being unhappy) but the reality is that we are still very pleased at being owners of a great rifle at a great price... I spent a day cleaning mold and a couple days staining...that sure beats spending every day without any M14 at all.

No, I don't think Marstar informed anyone about moldy/stinking stocks. Certainly not me. However, if you've never owned an M14 and you open that box, your eyes are still wide open, your jaw dropping to the floor and you're thinking: "gosh...this is beautiful...." then you notice the mould on the stock and you get a bit turned off. But then, you wash it, refinish the stock and you completely forget about the initial reaction to the mouldy stock. I refinished my stock with Tru-oil, cleaned all the metal parts and applied Remington gun grease to the relevant parts, sprayed and wiped the metal parts with G96 and gosh I love this gun. G96 makes it smell so nice. I actually keep the gun under my bed and at night I can still smell it. If I could, would take my M14 to bed with me, like in "Full Metal Jacket" but my wife would not necessarily approve of this....I know she is a bit jealous....:D

Sanded the stock, then coated it with truck bed liner, then primer, then Rustoleum textured finish paint.

is the Rusoleum durable enough for frequent handling? Will it stick to a stock with a shiny finish? I coated mine with Tru-oil, several caoats and it is nice, smooth and shiny but I like those texture paints. One of my hunting rifles has that. Pretty durable to handling but not as much as I thought it would be....

I am in my 30's. I remember when as a teen in the early nineties, all the surplus and other goodies available from SIR and Century (IIRC) and a few other companies. Guns off all kinds were available (sometimes cheap) (AKs, FN,Thompsons, etc,) with an FAC and we could stuff 30 rounders in them to boot.
I regret not listening to some old timers back then who tol d me to buy even a POS snubbie or FN rifle/subgun to get grandfathered under the new laws coming out back then. Of course, I did not listen. Too busy chasing tail.
That was an "era" of guns for me. Many of the old timers (relative word) had similiar "eras" from the 80s, 70s, 60s, etc.
For all you guys under 30, under 25, teens,etc- this is YOUR ERA! Buy whatever inexpensive surplus/imports you can. Even if you don't have the "flavour" for them right now, you might someday, and it might even be even more restricted in 20 years or downright unavailable.
These M-14s are absolute gold, quit whining about fuzzy f*cking stocks, who gives a sh*t? Clean em up and buy aftermarket later. At least you got a damn M-14. Same deal with some of these other surplus Tokarev pistols, SVT-40 and such. Scoop them up! There are some Czech CZ/VZ ak-look alikes out there, some Norinco Type-whatever bullpups- what are you waiting for?? Get them while you can. Take out a small loan if you have to. You won't regret it in 20years. Can't buy a bargain rifle but you can buy a $3000 television set? Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!
The last shipment of these M-14s? Pretty sad. Glad I got one. End of another era.

You might be right on this...

FWIW I cleaned my stocks with Varsol & a rag & toothbrush and it took the "mold" and all grease out of the stocks leaving the stock with a normal dark colour with no foul or moldy smell.

At least not on the rifle. My toothbrush stinks now.

Hey Groundkeeper Williy, sure thing some whining is going on but once I cleaned up my M14 I now regret not buying two. Not everyone purchased a $3000 TV set as some of us also have family and kids to worry about. But I do agree, buy these things now while you still can. On the other hand, once thing get prohibited, I fear the government will enter your house and confiscate at will what you no longer are allowed to own. This not likely in a very new future but the scenario is more likely over time. I observe an escalation of the regulations and bans. It is like a gradual increase in severity of the government regulations imposed on people explained as "measures to ensure public safety". The government will do what the want even breaking some of their own regulations, and then you can challenge them in court. The only difference is that most people won't be able to afford the lawyer and the government will use our own money, tax payer money to fight you in court.

well at least i wasnt the only one, but i did one thing then that i dont reget, even though i already had my FAC i wrote the PAL test when it was all one test in 96, so in effect i was UP classed to RPAL. i didnt have write it agian when they split it up

So is this true? No more M-305's coming into Canada?

Not sure about the rumors but I did email marstar just before x'mas and they reply is:

Hi,

I am interested in purchase one of these rifle but on your web site saids "Sold Out".

I want to see when this rifle will become available and is that possible I can pre-order one by providing a deposit?
As we have been advertising for the past 9 months, this was the last shipment.... No more are coming.... John

So chances is most importers will not carry them anymore once whatever's left are sold.

i called 2 days ago and they said they had 2 people cancle there order and i told him i would take them.i was then transfered to someone else and gave thema all the info (pal visa).so there might be a slim chance i was a lucky bugger and called at the right time.
not sure how fast they are for shipping, but if they get here before the fed22nd support group im going...

I would be interested in a GTA clinic as well. There is simply so much to see and do that I didn't get all the info that I wanted the first time around.
