John's posted that they've received a new batch of m14/m305's; he also says in post #39 of the quoted thread (below) that the Marstar rifles are of higher quality than those sold by other vendors. Full length models, not the 18.5's; he feels there are issues with the short barreled rifles so he isn't even importing them (at least not yet).

Any comments to that by people who've bought the Marstar rifles vs those sold by other retailers? Better quality with Marstar's? I could believe that Marstar would have more purchasing power and could thus demand better finishing than a company importing a smaller quantity. (of course not sure that Marstar doesn't supply a lot of retailers also).

I bought mine from them in 2009 full length model and I have not had one issue with it. I have done a few things to it like add a smith muzzle break and a boyd's stock but nothing that I had to to.

Bought a 22" in 2012 and have had no functional issues in over 1,000 rounds. Barrel is over-indexed by a few degrees but that is all.

I got a circa 2007 22'' in chu wood that was still laying around in the shop in 2010. No issues apart from a canted front sight dovetail and an off center aperture in the rear sight. Nothing a commercial US flash suppressor (bayo lug as a bonus) and a replacement rear sight aperture couldn't fix. Shoots like a charm.

Norinco is Norinco. If Marstar isn't importing the marketing rifles because of QC issues, I'd listen. Marstar does their own warrantee work. Cost money to fix factory problems.
I see they'll sell you an M305 and an SKS for $504. Slick.

2007 Marstar M14 here, no issues with mine... Other than leaving my hammer cocked for two years & not shooting the gun, resulting in me calling on Marstar's Ironclad Warranty for a new spring, which they replaced NO PROBLEM!

Marstar, as Johnone has said, visit the plants & put their Ironclad warranty on what they sell. I buy from them with confidence!

Cheers
Jay

Mine says, "Imported by Lever Arms" on it. The barrel isn't over or under indexed and the gas system is tight. Out of the box it does on average 3" groups at 100 meters with the best being just under 2". I haven't ever seen another M305 other than my own so I don't know about the others. Marstars warranty should be more than enough to make you feel comfortable buying one from them. I want a Type 56 SKS and I can't find them anywhere other then Marstar so I may need to get a new M305 so I can get the $75 Type 56 ;)

I think, but haven't confirmed, that most of the wierd receiverd shorties came from canada ammo.
I've never had anything but exemplary service from marstar. In my books, if John says issues they weren't happy with have been addressed... I'd absolutely take his word for it and place my order.
I'm looking forward to seeing mine, placed the order yesterday ;)
Will give an in depth examination with comments to follow

How many M305s (M14) do you have ;)

What is the "weird" part about these receivers?

What is the "weird" part about these receivers?

How to answer that question.....
In the past, say 90's onward up to when the first 18.5" barrelled rifles hit our shores, we were accustomed to a dimensionally sound receiver coming from china.
Yes, the odd one here and there had a few dimensional quirks, but for the most part, and verified by actual tests on receivers, bolts, barrels on several occasions, pre 2010 rifles had hardness and dimension very close to the real thing.
Then along came the 18.5's and standards starting in 2010 that exhibited brittle barrels at the receiver threads, and receivers that are not the same level of dimensional quality as what came before.
These receivers are easy to spot and show deformaties and irregularities on the right side of oprod ledge and heel. Top of heel and the rear right bearing surface.

This is not to say these rifles are junk... But as evidenced by the atrocious time I had working on such rifles for clients (when I was smithing as m14doc) and in my books "undesireable" when it comes to building up a rifle.

Also I should add that only a percentage of the 22" and 18.5" rifles imported since 2010 have been built on these receivers.

Others may add more based on their findings but the above pretty much sums up what I'll say online about this subject

I can't even count how many I've owned.... Maybe 40?
I've built and test fired and handle a few hundred or more.
Right now I'm down to 9 receivers, 1/2 a build (in EE) and 2 operational rifles that are my keepers for now :D

I be surprised if this was the case. I waited for almost a year on promises they were coming in any day, ended up buying elsewhere due to lack of response. Got a 5 year warranty from a local shop, 1000's of rounds works as good as they day I bought it. Were they that bad to begin with? How much better could they be? Probably sounds good on paper, but how much worse could they be? Moot argument imo. Whatever you do, just don't attempt to add any sarcastic humor to the mix at any point in the conversation..lol
