Marstar M14/M305's 'better' than other vendors?

The no questions asked warranty offered from Marstar ( which I had occasion to use only once ) is very reassuring esp when buying a firearm like the Norc. I'd sworn off M14 type rifles but have decided to play again so yesterday Marstar again got some of my business.

So has the quality there with the 2013 Marstar batch? Does anyone have any pictures of what they were shipped?

Got my 305 from Marstar in 2006 i think and i is flawless since, i am on the verge to passing it to my oldest grandson, when my NM M1A show up in a couple of days... JP.

Check the M305 & SKS thread, seems to be a few people with over indexing issues. The sights have been played with (in some cases extremely) to compensate.

Same comment as others re: the sights. Overindexed barrel and ####ty rear site on my Marstar M305 (2009 marked I think) Solid rifle once addressed.

Got a Breda M1 Garand sight ready to go on. Need to see Barney up in Collingwood or have him down to EESA for a clinic (I HOPE! November if the club agrees)

cleaned it up and its ready to go to the range today, barrel looks indexed correctly and the sights looks straight, guess we will see!

i have a 2013 shortie for about 4 months now 250 rounds through it not one problem fingers crossed it stays that way now that im hearing about these issues with the 2013's

If your talking about service, pricing, guarantee, the cool case its shipped in then yeah, Marstar has an edge there for sure. If your asking whether Marstar gets superior rifles from norinco then I have to go with no. A norinco rifle is made by norinco, not Marstar and I don't believe Marstar gets better M14/305's then everybody else in Canada. Just my opinion. I could be wrong but I didn't see it.

The big issue is that everyone is making a big deal out of what seems to be a small batch of really crappy looking receivers on rifles brought in sometime between 2011 and 2013.
Most of these rifles had the 18.5" barrels.... And NONE were sold from marstar. Neither were any I bought from sfrc or weimajack.
Out of index barrels, crappy flash hiders, crappy sights and ill fitting stocks have been "the standard" with ALL these rifles regardless of dealer/import year.
I take Johnone's comments to mean that someone made sure we weren't getting any of those tossed together rifles with the shoddy machined receivers.
Chinese receivers have been in the past, very close to GI spec.... Those shoddy ones that the odd guy got over last couple years are certainly not.

Read the stickies, inspect your rifle and if you have a problem .... There's a load of folks here to assist.

I remember discussing Chinese manufacturing and business practices with a fellow that had stuff made there frequently....
It went something like this.....Chinese are very accommodating when it comes to the price per unit vs the quality of the product. You want 1000 units of ### at $100 per unit, and say that's the high end of the scale, since QC is minimal or nonexistent, 5% of those will be scrap/unsellable, 15% will be way higher quality then expected, %80 will be the typical Chinese quality you expect. Drop that number to $80 per unit and they will still make it for you, and the percent of rejects will increase accordingly.

I got a circa 2007 22'' in chu wood that was still laying around in the shop in 2010. No issues apart from a canted front sight dovetail and an off center aperture in the rear sight. Nothing a commercial US flash suppressor (bayo lug as a bonus) and a replacement rear sight aperture couldn't fix. Shoots like a charm.

Same on my rifle from the LAST M305'S EVER batch they found in 2009

went out to the range.
set up on some bags.
gun is straight out of the box, havnt even sighted it in yet these are straight out of the box shots.

just shy of 300 yards.... with iron!
you might all be missing the significance of this, i suck with iron!
i dont shoot past 100 feet with iron.... this is over 800 feet!!!

i was amazed!
it was like christmas!
i went and set up the 30 and 55 yard targets and when i saw how good it was shooting i clicked my heels and skipped out to the 109 yard one to set up a new target and ran all the way back squeeling with joy!
when i saw how good i did on that one i bolted out to the 274 yard one to try that one!

i am amazed!
open mouth.... in awe..... amazed!

this gun shoots better then my $1000 Browning with $500 glass!!!!

i am truly in love with this gun now, but i must say, you KNOW when youve hit the trigger on this bad boy, he tap's you with a sledge hammer on the shoulder, haha!

Alright groups for sure, purely iron sites as God intended with this baby, lol. Thanks for your time in posting photos, its a hassle but always nice to see them. Its an addictive platform for sure. M14/M1A/M305 are like lays potato chips, betcha can't just have one, lol
Also what ammo where you using, think I saw a box of Nosler custom but wanted to ask anyway. I shoot mostly 7.62 x 51 surplus but do shoot .308 now and then as well. I have found the portuguese and south african good and the chinese is even decent. Now and then I shoot some MFS .308 and its decent as well. Not often but sometimes I'll get some high grade name brand match ammo and treat the girls, lol, but very rarely. They love the surplus 7.62 x 51 to be sure.
