My father was looking into getting a scope mount for his M14 (his eyes aren't what they use to be) and I was looking at Marstar's mounts. Does anyone know how good they are, is there a major difference between the regular and deluxe?

Also Id rather this didn't turn into some sort of Marstar debate (which is sometimes known to happen), I'm going to make clear that I have bought from them before and I have no problem buying from them again. So that kind of info isn't needed just the stuff about the mounts! Thanks!

- I did a search and couldn't find anything so if this is a re-post and I missed it sorry!

M14 mounts

I bought a Marstar combo came with mounts, 3X9 Scope etc. Put it all togeater no problems took it to the range with some suplus ammo sighted it in all held up good. I've now worked up some good hand loads and consistantly get 1" to 1.5 groups some even tighter down to .75. Unit hasn't change in over 500 rounds. I've been very happy with this rig. For the price try one I don't think you will be sorry.

Thanks, Ill have to see what else is out there and if things are too expensive for me I may have to try the Marstar scopemount.. see how it works.

I just noticed both links were stickies! GAH! how did I miss that... :bangHead:
Sorry guys!

Apart from the whole relatively expensive(but worth every penny receiver mounts), one could opt out of the cheaper aluminium receiver mounts and go for a half decent scout-style mount. This of course involved a barrel band mount and handguard cutting but by all means many have good luck with it along with an appropriate long eye relief scope.

Ok, I'm on the Wolverine site.. but they don't have a price for their M14mount! which one on the ARMS price list is it!? I'm so confused!

I'm not really interested in a scout scope style mount but I appreciate the idea.

Give them a call to see what to costs and availability of the ARMS mounts. I called a few weeks back - they were sold-out, but they had them order and were expecting them soon.

mount

best mount I've run into (and personally use) and a few other fellas that I shoot with that have m-14s is the smithenterprises 7" rail. I believe they have discontinued it and you can get a reasonable deal (not cheap) but after a little bit of locktight and a good wrenching it is pretty stable.... for a m14.

Had to mount the Marstar version once & it wasn't easy..also, I see that mount coming loose in the near future with the M14 rattling away each time..I even told the guy to spend an xtra $100 & get the ARMS or Smith.

I bought my Arms 18 on abay for USD$150. I have seen them cheaper.

I bought my M1A/M14 3 point mount from ebay for 45 bucks
it fits and works nice . had a bugger of a time getting the stripper clip guide off . after removing the pin i was a bit of a wuss when it came to beating on my baby

there is one listed at the moment i think

Smith mount

I had a bit of a problem with the smith mount coming loose after vibration. I went back to my machinist manuals and got the propper torque tolerances for the sizes of bolts and then took them to that, the smith enterprises torques absolutley suck. A little red locktight and I've got 500 rounds through it and it's solid. I wish they wouldn't piss around with this stuff, they are building these "crazy horse" rifles with these mounts on them and shipping them to iraq, If they are using the torques they suggest I bet half the rifles are back to iron sights by now.

:puke:

I got my Marstar deluxe mount three days ago and installed it that night. It was a bit tough to install (no instructions didn't help...). The piece that fit into the stripper guide area on my rifle was very tight, but did go it, so no complaints. I set it all up and checked it was right (evenly aligned etc), then undid all the bolts and put them back in with red locktite, tightened it until I was afraid the bolts would break (as hard as I could with a slot screwdriver and allen key, and then using vise grips on the large round heads for an extra 1/10 turn) and let the whole thing sit for two days. I hit the range today and that thing is rock solid. I think I could jump on it and it wouldn't move. I've got no complaints about the mount. I'm hunting for another M14S and I'll put another one of those same mounts on it.
