40lb for $250 is $6/lb, give or take. Say 4lb per pistol, packed. Say $25 additional per pistol. $325 pistol becomes a $350 pistol. Doubt that that would dampen sales much. A larger shipment should cost less per lb.
Price goes up a bit, or no product to sell for months on end.
I ran a gunsmithing shop on Baffin Island, and airfreighted ammunition and firearms. Didn't cost $6/lb, of course, the one way trip was only 2000km. The cost of a box of centrefire cartridges was increased by 2 or 3 dollars when airfreighted, compared to seafreight. Never had any difficulty selling the product. As it happens, airfreighting longarms is less expensive than mailing them. Seafreight is a lot cheaper, but the shipping options are limited, and seafreight only makes sense for a large quantity.
