Marstar....Numrich

JASONSMACK;
You seem to be aware of how the procedures work, but I will explain in any case.

When we sell ANY restricted firearm to any person in Canada we file the report with the CFC, they in turn contact the provincial CFO in the buyer's province....

Once approved by the CFO in question they advise the CFC,
the CFC then advises us by fax with "hard copy" originals by mail....

Once we have the faxed confirmation we ship the customer's order....

I do apologize for the delays but we DO have to follow the law....
John

So what you are saying is that you rely on snail mail for all of your transfers? I know some of the vendors here can pretty much do a transfer instantly on their computer. I have walked into stores in Western Canada and walked out with a gun registered in my name within a half hour. The restricted transfers will sometimes have to wait overnight. That is still a large difference from how long I have been waiting.

If you choose to use the snail mail and/or fax and then wait for a fax from the CFC for the transfer without question or any reguard for time just fess up here and then I can shop somewhere else. You do realize my registration certificates have been here for three and a half weeks now and you are supposedly finally sending the pistols tomorrow? If you like I could post the emails between myself and one of your employees on the board here. Now they are telling me it is my fault and that I should have called weeks ago to tell them there was a problem. MY FAULT???? Way to pass the buck.

JASONSMACK;
"So what you are saying is that you rely on snail mail for all of your transfers? "
NO that is not what I said, please read my reply once more....
I would be pleased to read the e mails you received, pleas send them to me at john@marstar.ca
IT IS NOT a question of not following up on transfers, we are told by the CFC simply that "transfer is not complete" that due to privacy issues they will not discuss another person's file....

"I have walked into stores in Western Canada and walked out with a gun registered in my name within a half hour."
YES I agree non restricted can, and often is done immediately, but NOT restricted....

We do hundreds of transfers a week, please understand that we make every effort to make certain our customers get their purchase ASAP.

I understand your frustration and non satisfaction with this transaction, we apologize, I can only say that events were beyond our control.

Rather than have an unhappy client, one who has said he would prefer to shop elsewhere, may I offer you a full refund ?.
Hoping to hear back
John

Ok ...I ordered parts for my P1 from Marstar..Wolff springs..Numrich...Got my parts from all 3...No duty from the states...Wolff springs are the fastest in getting things to me, No Exchange on the parts from the states( Money at Par)...Only Marstar got a part of a order wrong/...Sent me a rear sight, Rather then the Firing pin Indicator cover, I asked for. This after I faxed them and talked to them on the phone about wanting a firing pin indicator cover...Good news...Marstar is sending the Indicator cover now...So I am happy with all 3 suppliers.

MARSTAR .....I have bought a handgun ,recently some 223 ammo... had nothing but fast and friendly service (also good prices)from John and his employes...will continue to deal with them, also recommend Marstar to members at my club.

after a week and a half , i would call marstar to check on the progress .

they did forget my order once and when i got the parts , it included parts i didnt order but normally marstar are good.

i expresspost back the part i didnt order on sep 17th , should be there in 2days, i gave them two weeks to credit my charge card , but got nothing .... so i called on oct 2nd and they said they received the item and will credit my card later that week, today is the oct 10th , i just checked my credit card , guess what? nothing .... i wait till friday before i call again.

Other then
  • occasionally finding out when an order arrives that something that was available when they took my order wasn't available when my order was shipped...
  • The wait for the M14's (don't buy one buy two!)
  • Not having case lots of 308 in stock right now (dammit)
  • and maybe getting kicked off the phone system once or twice while on hold.

I have no complaints.. and I've ordered 10 times or so... Which reminds me I need to get my name on the list for 1 more 305... And I'll probably put an order in this week... But I'm nuts...

Visited Numrich two years ago. Amazing place, it's not one big building but several small ones, located on a small dead end street in West Hurley, which wasn't an easy town to find. We were hoping to pick up some parts that
Numrich would send, but would get stopped at Canada Customs.
The gentleman at the parts counter was very friendly and most helpfull. He was impressed that we would travel all the way from Canada to visit their store. We picked up all the parts we were looking for, and when we mentioned Lee Enfields, he told us that they had some new,(in the grease) barrels for the No 4's. We bought 10 of them ( L.E"s are very popular hunting guns in our neck of the woods) at an excellent price and the man even appologized that the sites were still on them
We brought our booty back to the border and declared it at Customs. The officer there didn't bat an eye, and after paying duty, passed us on. For some odd reason, the Customs people that check the mail, parcels, etc., will stop or hinder gun parts coming in that way, but if you bring it personnaly to the border, the officers there will let you through with it with no problems. Guns and gun receivers are a no no., but everything else is OK. This has happened a couple of times now, so it wasn't a fluke.
From the many dealing we have had with Numrich over the last 25 years or so, we have nothing but high praise for this company and it's staff. it's been my experience that Canadian companies could learn valuably lessions from U.S. companies with regards to fast, friendly, and efficient customer service.
A case in point is Marstar. I find they rarely have what they show as in stock on their web site, delivery times can be terrible (if they remember to send it) and usually requires a phone call to get things moving. My dealings with them have been about 50/50 over the last few years. They really should look at improving their customer service.

Well here is how my dealings with them ended up. I got the two pistols last Wednesday in the mail and they appear to be in good condition. I have not cleaned them or test fired them yet but I do not expect any surprises. I will say that I am a little surprised that they could not even bother to put a couple of 99 cent plastic trigger locks on the firearms when they shipped them. I know from experience that some of the other vendors on this forum do so.

I did talk to the firearms center twice since I first posted here with my issues. Both people absolutely guaranteed me that the transfer was completed on August 24th and that if Marstar had bothered to follow up on the transfers at any point after that they would have got the green light to ship. The one lady I talked to (the first call I made to the CFC) said that she would be unable to give me any specifics but said that there had been no inquiries on the status of the transfer from anybody else anyway. I have no idea if this is a fact or not but it sure makes me wonder......

Anyway this timeline is accurate;
>Order made on or before August 21st
>CFC transfer is complete August 24th
>Tracking number for shipping sent to me on Oct 1st
>Pistols supposedly shipped on Oct 3rd
>Pistols recieved on Oct 10th

57 days from order date to possesion.
40 (at least) days that Marstar sat on the pistols between the transfer and ship dates.

But then again the delay is my fault according to Marstar.
