Marstar/SSD BD-38 review (now with pics & VIDEO!)

In keeping with the theme, here's an older vid from the spring EOHC shoot of another semi-auto "toy" of mine :)

Now your talking!!!

Is it possible to do "concentrated" semi auto fire with the 20lbs trigger?

As far as other mp38's, I have seen one at a small september calgary gun show. Real nice too. dewat non the less.

yeah, you can do SERIOUS concentrated fire - IF/WHEN you have 8mm lying around ;) Lately I haven;t had any :(

A bunch of CGN's have played with my MG34 out at EOHC - lots of fun :)
Here's a shot of Fremen shooting it:

In other news, I'm receiving 2 new MP41 mags this week to replace the two that were too tight for my BD38. I spoke with Mike and Frank at Marstar & it was not just me, the mags were tight in the other BD38 they tried it in. We think the mags either got warped or distorted, or that possibly they work fine in the bent sheet steel MP40's but not the tighter milled MP38 mag wells.

I tried to get MP38und40 marked replacement mags, but all the mags they have left are Haenel MP41 marked mags. Same difference :) I already have like 6 MP41 mags though, so maybe I'll try to trade 'em with someone for variety's sake - lol.

Wanna know something funny? MP41 mags are WAY rarer than MP38u40 mags! Odd that Marstar only has rare mags left in stock.

Hi to Claven2 (and all MP fans),

I have a Marstar BD-38 also and I love it. It sure turns heads out on the range. The RO fired off a few mags himself and commented that I have nice toys. Reasonable price considering, too.

One comment, I recommend only firing FMJ rounds, as soft points tend to jam going into the chamber. I do love the feel of a blowback firearm - I also have a very clean live firing G43 self-loader (I don't fire it much as it was manufactured with questionable quality control). Firing from an open bolt takes some getting used to. But keeping it on target for burst firing is easy once you learn to correct for climbing (as you noted).

I recommend this model to anyone who wants to feel what firing an MP38 is like, in terms of its balance and weight, etc. I can't get the full feel without being able to go on full-auto (the baby went out with the bathwater long ago in Canada), but it ain't all bad. Being made to only fire on semi-auto this is considered by the CFO to be a legal Restricted firearm.
