Marstar Swedish 8mm surplus ammo

I've seen some selling on US sites, and they state that they will not ship to California and a few other states due to magazine capacity restrictions... that's right, in the eyes of the law they see them as magazines... and a machine gun part too! That being said, it will probably be fine.

Where could I order a chamber reamer from in 8x63? I tried contacting Clymer but they no interest in doing a custom reamer for me.

They used to be willing. Here's the drawing they have (had) on file about 15 years ago:

Why not re-engage with them and share their own drawing with them? Saves the trouble of sending dummy rounds to them, and then them having to do the drawing.

Thanks Andy, I will give them another try.

I just have to add that it is very unique and no real specs are solid....the drawing above is good, and my return spec sheet is overwhelming of info, with no real for sure way to confirm exactness...I guess if it chambers and goes boom,it is a start, and if successful...I will get some dies made...

If anyone wants to see the spec sheet, send me your e mail....I can not post worth $hit on this site

Used the specs from above....now I am cross referencing dimensions to case dimensions.....my spec sheet is WAY more detailed,so far so good, not sure of pilot dimensions...8mm barrels do veri,May have to lean on the smaller end

Here's the drawing done by JGS:

Since they drew it from the Clymer drawing, it appears that all they've done is convert some angles provided into diameters at particular places.

As for pilot size, that's a place where every barrel could vary slightly. I'd stay with what Clymer used as it worked well in a variety of barrels.

Concerning Headspace Gauges, I never used any. I used clean examples of the ammo that was to be shot as my "Go" Gauge.

I wonder of how much throat they are giving it.....is it more for a classic 8x57 hunting bullet or a FMJ type.I will put that as question number 3 when I call them..

As for barrel diameter.....modern day barrels should be good.I did ponder using a MG barrel, thread and chamber it,but I have read that the MG barrels are different in metal and can bugger your nice new reamer.

They won't be able to answer that, as they simply took the measurements from the Clymer Drawing. I assume though that it's geared towards the 218 gr FMJ bullets found in the ammo.

The lengths I see are as follows:

- Throat - 0.4398" - is the distance from the end of the chamber neck, to 0.309" (the approximate full diameter of 8mm rifling "lands"); and
- Lead - 0.1725" - (part of the throat) is the distance from the end of the chamber neck to where the diameter starts to be less than 0.323" (bullet diameter).

EDIT - I did some (rough) measurements on my 8X63 ammo and compared it to those specs, and it looks like this ammo will be 0.100-0.150" from the rifling lands at its as-loaded OAL of 3.340" (which is a fairly long OAL for a "Standard" Action - 3.400" being about the limit). This makes me think that the only hunting bullets that will need to be loaded to OAL's that are on the short side would be heavy RN bullets. Most Spitzers will be able to be loaded close to as long as most magazines allow and not be far from the lands.

If you don't like those specs, now's the time to ask for a change, but you'll need to first identify a specific bullet and loaded OAL, as well as how far you want it from the rifling and do some math, or mail them a round with that bullet seated as desired and when you do that you're optimizing to just the one bullet which has advantages and disadvantages. If you're not willing or able to do that, I suggest that you stay where it is.

Lee has the specs for the dies. Andy and I had a bunch made maybe 10 years ago.

No changes to date.....trying to find my mic to measure the back side of the case an compared to a actual case/s...just want to make sure it was not assumed it was based on a 06 case

The 8x63 is quite unique in it is just a bit fattier at the bottom...and for a military round the brass is not as thick..case capacity is closer to 300 win mag..just thinkin out side the box, nice to have a new kid on the block to play with.
